I'm sure everyone has tried lipton onion soup mix (dry) in their hambergers.  Mix it in before you make the patties.  Damn goooood....
I have tried that, you see that recipe a lot, I didn't particularly care for it myself. I like to use Lawry's seasoned salt and dried onion bits

I must over do it with the dried onions......they always dominate the taste.  I will be looking at the spice mixes in the store in a whole new light from now on...

I would way prefer "real" meat over what we buy in the store, but to tell you the truth, if I was raising the cows myself, I really doubt they would ever make it to slaughter. I don't think I could bring myself to that. I know where that package of steak came from, but at least I didn't have to see it moving around the fields first. (just like I can't pick a lobster out of a tank but I'll eat a lobster tail  :screwy:  )  :hammerhead:
Well Im wierd like that, once we were loading up some year olds to take to the sale and this one caught my eye.It looked perfect and I said to my cousin who was helping us that he would look good on the table. We've got probably a hundred head of cattle not including calves so it make's it easier to not get attached to one in specific i guess.

 speaking of camping meals. I saw someone else mention the same cut of meat they are serving at that Crawler Roundup - tri-tip. I'd never heard of that before they made mention of it being our dinner.
Is this something new?

It's not new.  I heard an explination for it on TV once, but I don't remember what it was....I believe there is another name for a "tri-tip" also.

I've also been known to take some canned jalepeno peppers (sliced) and some jack cheese, and make my hamburger patties around the cheee and jalepeno slices.  Jalepenos add a ice kick, and they taste great.  IF you wanna get creative, you can even toss some montreal steak seasoning into the mix

I'm not sure if there is another name, and to be honest I dont even know what part of the animal tri tip comes from, but I had never heard of it until I moved out here 6 years ago.  We have friends who live in NH, and we have it everytime they visit, cause they love it.  You will all like it  I can almost gurantee it

I like the Montreal Chicken too.  :drooling:

Oh, and another excellent campout food we are forgetting...BRATS!   :yumyum:

I pre-boil them but I use Hornsby's Hard Draft Cider instead of beer, add a couple bay leaves and some onions. Once they are cooked I put it all in a rubbermaid container in the fridge to cool overnight. I remove any congealed fat from the top and pour all the rest into a Food Saver, seal it up and freeze it.

Nothing better then grilled brats!!  :chew:  :meal:  :beerchug:

Mmmmm, a good sounding variation, I think we'll try it this weekend in Big Bear. :chew:

it's to die for Gonzo! Gotta try it. The steak seasoning is good too but a little too overpowering for my taste.
And of course the leftovers, if there are any, are EXCELLENT mixed in eggs the next morning, especially if you have any steak and mushrooms left over too.

Ok....I confess....I tried taters with the Montreal Chicken spice last night...........I was going to take a picture and post it....but............I couldn't stop eating them long enough to get the camera.......:smack: :psss:...some times I scare myself.

Foil potatoes:

Potatoes - sliced or any way you like them cut

Chopped onion

Garlic (minced fresh or dry granulated)

Butter

Chopped green chili's (I like the taste of the chili more than the heat. green chili's have more of  a chili  taste)

Pepper (I like the taste of the white pepper)

Rap in foil (double is probably the best).  Put on grill or in oven or camp fire.  Keep an ear on them and turn when you think it needs it.  check them with a fork.

I found a Montreal Steak marinade mix in the supermarket. I have a top round marinading in it as we type  :drooling: smelled really good. and tonight we grill  :meal:

Lady Di

It was quite yummy! It's a little dark but as you can see by this pic, it's a very substantial marinade. MrW went back for thirds.

Did you just put the spice mix on by it's self or did you add some liquid?   It looks really good.

Hobo Dinner:

Ground Beef, butter, carrots, onions, beans ( your choice ) taters , salt, pepper, a cup of brewed coffee mixed in with the batch for marinade ( doesn't have to be Starbucks or the like )( The coffee is the main deal.......it makes the beef unbelivably good )

mix well and wrap in 4 layers of foil, put in the coals of the fire and let cook for 45 mins - 1 hour

It's Screaming good !!!

Also , when making smores........try Reeses instead of Hersheys chocolate !!! it's great !!!!

it's a marinade mix, Gonzo. You add water, oil (I used olive oil, of course), vinegar (I used red wine, but I think apple cider vinegar might be better), all the rest is in the mix. Of course, because of the vinegar, it would be good for a tougher cut of meat. I bet it would be GREAT for shish kabobs!  :drooling:

Yup ......Hobo (foil) dinners are awesome   I like the idea of adding beans and the cup of coffee.  This is a definite "to be tried".  I'm not sure the reeses would make it to the smores.  :chew:
