Hey guys, lets here some favorites. I'm always up for some new idears. :chew: :yumyum:

One of my favorites is fried spam with anything. Another one is fried salami with anything. Another one is potatos cooked in the fire in foil, then hollowed out like a boat, then dump some chili beans in that unit. :love:          :beerchug:

WHITE_TRASH

Hobo stew, take a potato skin still on cut up in 4-5 pieces.  Add diced carrots, onion, corn hell anything you feel like and wrap it all up in foil and leave it next to the fire in the edge of the coals for about 30 minutes.  Best served with a well chilled Coors Light!
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Hashbrowns, eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, and peppers. Mix it all together and cook in a dutch oven. :yumyum:
Size doesn't matter... yet.

WT, ya know, some 1/4" spam steaks seared to a golden brown would fare quite well with your Hobo Stew. :yupyup:

Every one I talk to says that they eat better meals when they are out camping.  Most of use have recipes and meals that we love to cook when we are camping.  My favorite is fairly simple:  T-bone steak marinaded in "good seasons" Italian dressing mix.  The main difference is that I use Balsamic vinegar in the mix.  I usually let the steak "age" in the refrigerator for about three days before I marinade it (35 to 40 deg. F).  I marinade it for one day then I put it in the freezer (still in the marinade) for a day, then when it's frozen I "vacuum pack" it with my food saver.  I then put it back in the freezer until it's time to cook it or pack it in the cooler.  Of course I bring taters pre-wrapped in foil and ready to go on the fire for baked taters.  I bring all the fix'ins for the taters and a vegi salad (usually tomatoes and cucumbers with dill).  I will use my dutch oven to make biscuits, bread or even a pie.  Sometimes I will cook a whole chicken or make a strew.

chili and cornbread

I'll try to get the chili rtecipe off my mom, best chili I ever ate, and if yo umake it right, it'll burn your socks off, and an hour later curl your nose hair :yupyup:
Make cornbread in a dutch oven, and if you are a fan of spicy foods, chop up some jalepenos and toss in the cornbread batter. Thumbs:

Real simple and easy to make and clean up is eggs in a bag.
Before hand, chop up onions, peppers, ham, whatever you like in your eggs.  When yyou wake up, give everyone a ziploc bag, 1 gallon freezer bags work best.  HAve them put their eggs in the the bag, and whatever they want to mix in there.   Close the bag, and squeeze the stuff around inisde to get it mixed real well.  THen stick it in a pot of boiling water, and wait for about 10 minutes, checking it every few minutes.  pull it out, dunk the bag in ice water (cooler water) real quick, and now you have a scrampled egg breakfast, and a container to eat it in.  This is really good for those of you with younger kids who want to "help"  they can make their own, and feel involved, and everyone gets their own, so no complaints cause of picky eaters :thumbs:

Geeze you guys get so technical!

I usually marinade some chickums in whatever garlic marinade I can find, about 2 days before the trip.  Usually with chickums we'll have canned soup or chili (just throw the can on the fire and shake it once in awhile, eat straight from the can), and sometimes we'll even have some bread or chips to go with it.

Another favorite is breakfast, breakfast is always huge when we're campin, even though in the mornings nobody's hungry from drinkin too much.  Sausage and bacon are first to cook, then when they're done, some potatoes (packaged diced ones with peppers already in em), after the potatoes are done we'll put em on paper plates and then do the eggs in whatever leftover grease is still in the pan (we only bring one pan).  All this is thrown into a flour tortilla with some taco-bell sauce packet contents  :thumbs:

BLUCRUZ

1 pot boiling water
Put 2 eggs in a ziplock bag and scramble thourghly.
Add mushrooms, peppers, salt, pepper, whatever...into bag.
Place bag in pot and make sure bag dosen't touch the side of the pot.
About 3-5 minutes & you have a nice omelete, open bag & put on cheese or ?
Eat up :thumbs:

One Thanksgiving we cooked a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings at Calico, our imagination told us it tasted better but it wasn't any different except that we had a seven course meal in the middle of nowhere.

So the secret ingredient was where you were and who you were with?  Makes sense to me.

That about sums it up, good friends, good food, good booze, and it was cooked in my motorhome in the oven just like at home. I was kinda wierd feeling cooking a meal like that out in the boonies.

If you ever get a chance to cook a turkey on a charcoal Weber grill, do it.  It tastes awesome.  Crispy skin, moist meat. :drooling:  Weber has a recipe book that tells you how to do it.

The egg in a bag sounds like a great idea, so much easier then having to clean up the griddle/frying pan after cooking!

It looks pretty rude, but it is AWESOME!

We did it at a campout on a smoker one year, MANY years ago before it became popular and they started made stands for it.
I had to secure the chicken with twine on three sides to get it to stand (or is that sit?  :headscratch: ) but what a juicy delicious roaster that was!  :drooling:

I like to use a big oven stuffer roaster

You have never had fried chickums with yer taters?.....me either :dunno:......I have tried the "beer butt" chicken...it is excellent.  I also cooked them on the smoker....I love the hickory wood for smokin' meats.   I also have the stands for the chickens but the beer can works just as well and you don't have to clean them off just throw them away.  I use the legs to make a tri-pod so the chicken stands as straight as possible.

When I did our BBCHicken, maybe because I used a very large roaster (it was a BIG campout), the beer can didn't stick out it's butt, so I didn't have that as part of the tripod. BUt it worked out great. I can't wait till we can get away again. We're looking at 4th of July weekend.

Dang....that must have been a monster chicken...I usually cook two 5 pounders at a time in my smoker....but they have never "swallowed" the can that much.  Next time try stacking the cans and see if that works...I'm sure Mr. W can weld up something real easily for ya.

The roaster I used was probably a 10-12 pounder. We used to have big campouts with anywhere from 6-12 people or more, people coming and going. But everyone would bring enough food for everyone, so we had massive amounts of food.

That weekend we had the never ending pot o' chili, you just keep adding leftover meat, beans, veggies whatever...
I believe that was the weekend of the fried brocolli as well!

MrW will tell you about that one. It was so weird but SO GOOD! Not batter dipped just fried. One of the guys had brought a bag of pre-cut brocolli to nosh on (wuss!).

Another guy brought a deep frier and we were making french fries. Well... a beer or twelve later chasintg a few shots of vodka and someone thought it would be a good idea to try the raw brocolli fried.

They about melt in your mouth, we couldn't get enough.
