Rust... Whats that.... hehe ... Did I forget to mention that the story I heard was for the last 4-6 years, its been parked in a barn.

Worked on mounting the passenger seat today. I ended up having to notch out the tunnel to get it to clear since I had to make the tunnel fatter on the passenger side to clear the T-case plus the motor is slightly offset to that side also.

Heres the mounts....

Both seats installed....(the picture makes them look different colors, but they are not - ones just closer to the overhead light.)

I would have liked them to fold farther forward, but this will have to do.

4RnrRick

I noticed that after I installed the seats I have about a 3" H x 12" W x 12-20" L space under the seats that would be ideal for some type of sealed pull out drawer for tool storage/part.... So with some quick searching I found these that look almost ideal!

McMaster #6885T21
Std W/Locking Door
Design-Your-Own-Cabinet Drawer
W/4-13 Adj Compartments,
18" W X 3" H X 12" D
In stock at $21.20 Each

They look almost perfect! Plus they are cheap. So unless I find something better - I will probably order (2) of these and add them under the seats.

Very nice idea on the under seat storage.  I also really like the orange it looks really sharp.

Found these storage containers at Bimart today... Tuff Tainer® Satchel 9001 for $10 each. They are 14" wide x 15" long x 3.5" Tall. and with just a bit of nibbling on the seat mounts, they fit PERFECT under the seats! So there is a little more storage for me that is badly needed! I still need to think of a creative way to "secure" them under there so during a rollover, they won't be an issue.

I also finished the detail work on the seat rail notch out of the tunnel and got the seat mounts welded in.

THK Matt

that is some amazing work!
and those storage containers... GREAT IDEA!

I'm really happy that I found these containers!! I'm just shocked at how will they actaully fit. plus they feel nice and durable.

1 of those would make a nice electrical box for all you connections and strippers and what not

4RnrRick

Yeap - small tools and small parts in one. The other one will probably get emergency food, spare batteries, rags and first aid stuff.

Oh thats easy.... It goes in the cooler which will be on a rack that is going to be above fuel cell. Who would store their beer on the HOT floorboards!  :dunno:

toyotanner

i never really thought about having emergency food thats a good idea.  :yesnod:

did you figure out what your doing for a dash yet?

4RnrRick

I've only dipped into my emergency food a couple times when trips ended up being longer than expected. All I have really carried in the past is some power bars and a MRE. But yes - its nice to know its there.

Unless I find a Sami dash cluster with a Tach for cheap - I will just reuse the base model cluster I have and add a tach to the A-pillar or the clock postion in the dash. Everything else I can hook up using Sami sensors on my motor.

are you thinking of putting angle iron on the doors like you had on quasi? was it even worth it?

4RnrRick

Angle iron was TOTALLY worth it on the toyota doors. I will probably run a single piece of tube on these doors eventually.

Did a little mock up tonight to see my progress while I was figuring out what to tackle next.

Then I got the firewall notched out for the exhaust down pipe.

And then for the clutch slave cylinder.

I think I'm going to angle-iron my half-doors and leave my "DD" doors alone . It worked well for Rick, and I think it'd be sweet on "trail" half doors.

Those were my trail doors.... and yes its not very fashionable - but it works!

I have been into them HARD (including when I went to the hammers) and they came out unscathed. The thing is, here in Oregon, it rains alot - so keeping windows and fairly inclosed cab makes for MUCH nicer wheeling. And a thin sheetmetal door can only take so much rubbage before the window breaks or doesn't roll up.

DTB

makes sense..its a good idea...

a true example of function before form!
