Wow, one of my locals drove up there to get you to work on his truck -- very cool.  I never really found anyone around here that does nice 2wd toyota suspension work.  Maybe one of these days when I actually have $, I'll bring my '87 up for you to work on.

  And I know it's either an '87 or an '88 cause those are the only years that the wrap around chrome bumper came on them.

Got the wishbone done today, and Drew made some battery mounts. He's a pretty good welder.

I started some bag mounts. I was really struggling with a way to tie them together and add a crossmember without interrupting the flow. But as I was leaving on Wednesday it hit me, which is normally how it happens. Lots of ideas I don't like and then one that just speaks to me.


Also finished the shock mounts. They started with these things that look like sharks to me.




Also got the fuel cell done. I used a Marine style cap.

I calculated 11.5 gallons based on internal dimensions, but an even 11 is more likely since it will probably only fill to the bottom of the gas filler. It could have been a bit bigger, but it is meant to sit between two batteries, and not sit below the frame, or above the tallest part of the frame. So my dimensions where rather confined.

As far as smog, probably not legal. It will hold pressure, and could possibly be adapted to the machines they use. They do it for my flush mount cap even though it is not a legal stock cap. However the owner says he is not worried about smog, since he keeps the vehicle on non-op and doesn't really drive it. Said he just wanted a nice looking cap. What he had before was also not legal, and did not even seal.

I did that brake line thing again. Painted and sealed the fuel cell, and also a picture of the sight gauge.

looks great bro!  i like the fuel cell, i need to make one for my crawler.  i deffinately like the sight tube idea   i have never seen that done before.  is it just a bung at the top and bottom connected with the tube?  that probly sounds like a dumb question but i'm just making sure it really is that simple!

Made a muffler for the truck. Couldn't fit anything under the cab because of the PO's choice in crossmember placement, so I had to get creative.

Everyone asks that, but I have never been successful at getting a sound clip. I've sold about a dozen of these, and installed 3 myself. I even sponsored a few in exchange for sound clips. I don't have a digital camera that I can transfer content onto the computer with, so I am pretty much useless. The best thing I've got is a clip of my truck from inside the Datsun I did, which you can kind of hear the exhaust. However the doors on the Datsun rattle as loud, or louder than the exhaust itself. So take this clip for what it's worth.

I'm going to try and get a clip of this truck running before it leaves. I got my mom a new digital camera for Christmas, and it records sound pretty decent so that might work.

Well the backhalf is mostly wrapped up at this point. Still needs a few hours of work. But I am waiting on some parts for the front suspension right now, so I decided to roll it outside and take some pictures. I put 5 gallons in the tank and that's where it registers on the sight gauge.











I was also able to finally get a sound clip of one of my mufflers. Here are two YouTube videos. I can't get the truck to idle below what I am guessing is about 1500 RPM, and the clicking you hear is the mic on the camera.

The D50/MM fenders are the same from 2WD to 4WD. The Toyota has a 4WD bed.

control arms look beautiful!!  reminds me of the parts i welded together at Independent Cycle, swingarms, oil tanks, gas tanks etc.  so what fuel pump are you using with the fuel cell?
