I'll be rolling into the KOA in placerville on Thursday afternoon/evening (sure there will be some last minute adjustments to be made) so I can hang out with the Mammoths, Geno, yotaboy, etc like last year and all the other folks that will be attending this year.

I think you have to pay for a RV spot if you wanna leave your rig, I could be wrong though.  You can call the Placerville KOA at (530) 676-2267 for more info.

You can stay up all night if you want, but I need my sleep. If we are leaving before dawn I will be in bed early.
We will have a excellent crowd to roll with! RHG, we have a couple people that are in need of seats, will you have a co-pilot?

I just called and it's $25 for a tent site, one vehicle allowed at site, others in the parking lot.

It was slow going for the Mammoth last year. Going up those hills we were lucky to get 30 mph.
Mark should have the turbo on this week, so hopefully that will make a world of difference.
I think under normal speed conditions it's at least an hour to the trailhead.

 and we will be too! Speaking of, you guys need to make sure you make you reservations early. We already have ours. Last year the campground was sold out. It's a very popular campground.
And remember they have Kamping Kabins as well for anyone that would rather wait on the primitive tent camping.
Is anyone else going to be there with an RV?

No, they won't give you a specific spot till you get there and register. That is typical for all the campgrounds.
Yes, we'll be leaving our RV from Thur. to Mon./Tue. depending when we get back out.
We'll have to have an extra large spot for the RV and trailer.
Last year we were on the opposite side from where the Kabins were.

I reserved a one room cabin.  The 1 room cabins have one double bed and bunkbeds so they can sleep 3-4 people.  Well atleast the one room cabin we got last year had a double and bunkbeds, not sure if they are all the same :)

:headscratch: I'm not sure what Mickey bombs are, but I would hazard a guess that :yesnod: they might be a tad perturbed with that.
Very cool that you are going to be there too, Kyota!! We are going to have quite the caravan on Friday! I'll have the camcorder rolling!

what are peoples plans for coming back, I might just come out on the Tahoe side and take 89 back up to Truckee and take the highway back to Placerville. Discuss

putt putt golf!! this is gonna rawk

Ramrod

I highly doubt they are gonna allow you to have a mickey bomb at koa.  Think of koa as the chucky cheese of campgrounds.    and about the coming back part I think its alot faster to go up to south lake and then hit 50 back.  actually its way faster with way less hills and it takes you straight to placerville

*FFC*

Anyone know if they have group camping? Maybe we can get a huge group section for our group :dunno:

Even with the turbo I would guess we are not going to be flying either but will at least be able to do better then 25-30 mph.
We will all keep up with each other.

The plan we have so far is to stay till Monday, and come back out the Loon Lake side. But that could all change once we are up there.

And even though we all go in together we don't all have to leave as the same group, there will be plenty of people to wheel out with at any given time once you are there.

The ride from the Tahoe side is gorgeous, but the poor Mammoth was having a HELL of a time making it up THOSE mountains. SHOOEEE! That was high! I think the highest elevation we had there was about 7200-7600 ft. Probably took us a good 3 hours or more to get back to the KOA.

are you talking about 80 or 50?

Whatever the highway is out of the trailhead, we made a right and it took us around Lk. Tahoe. That took us to 50.

The trail out from the springs may be way faster, only cadillac hill to worry about and the rest is cake, but a couple hills? I guess it depends on what your vehicle can do on hills.

Those were some STEEP ass hills. At one point we had a huge parade behind us so Mark pulled off to let the line go by, it was all he could do to get it back in 1st gear without stalling or having to put it in a lower gear!

And then you still drove the highway 50 back past the turnoff to the Loon Lake trailhead.

The view is amazing going around the lake though.
