Holy canolli! I told you all to book early! :slap: I think you can have extra people at your sites for an extra cost.
You might not be able to have your OWN spot, but if you are tent camping there is no reason you can't put two tents or more on one spot and you can park your rig in the parking lot. Call back and ask them about that. I am sure there will be an extra charge for it, but they will only make more money on it then.
It's just the RV's that would have to worry about having a spot for themselves and I think we might be the only RV this year.
How many people still need spots?

I'm going to call the KOA in a bit. I am sure you are allowed to have extra people on your spot for an extra charge.
They just wouldn't throw you on a spot with a stranger if they are over booked.
And for the right price we might just have a couch for someone to crash on if need be, but we'll have to clear that with MrW first.

I spoke to Nicki. She said it's not a problem of places to set up a tent, the problem is with places to park the trailers.
If you aren't trailering your truck you will be in good shape.
She also mentioned that there is another campground that is much closer to Icehouse Rd., Sly Park Campground http://www.eid.org/recreation/sly_park/sly_main.htm in Pollack Pines.
She said it has no hook-ups but is patroled regularly. I'm trying to call to get more info but the phone is busy.

How many more people do we have that are trailing and don't have a spot?

Hey Mike, if you read this, should we break off into a Placerville KOA Caravan thread? I don't want to make too many seperate threads.

 I haven't made any reservation and I am trailering.  I guess I can lock the trailer and truck up and park em somewhere else and drive my rig in to the campground :headscratch: :disturbed:

you might want to call, and as it gets closer you might want to check again, there could be cancellations.
I believe she said they still have RV spaces available but that would cost more.
Or we check on that Sly Park campground. The KOA is like 30-40 miles from Icehouse. She said Sly Park is about 15 miles.
I just don't know about taking the LBC in there. I've been trying to call and it's busy.

OK I spoke to the girl at Sly Park, not an option.
Besides the fact that she said the will be beginning construction on the property after labor day so can't guarantee what they will have available for camp sites, they don't allow the rigs to be left unattended for more then 24 hours.
It didn't sound like they could guarantee security either.
KOA it is.
FFC, call and talk with her about bringing your rig in. Maybe it is possible to park it with our RV.

i got my reservations made!!
:hyper:  YAY!! Did you get an RV site? I think she said they still have RV sites left, but not camping sites.
Who do we have left that needs a reservation? If you are just driving a truck and not trailering you can set up a tent on someone else's site for an extra charge.

:dunno:  guess I'll just plan on doing this.  I'm driving in, so I don't have to worry about a truck and trailer.

I REALLY want to, but if I do, it'll be last minute.  Swapping in my new engine this weekend, then we have lift scheduled, it looks like I might be changing jobs soon, so getting it off might be a problem if I do.  Even then I'd only have bald 31s, and no sliders.  We'll see.

Damn, it sucks being broke...

i got a tent site i think in the same area i was last year
they know i got a trailer

I've been to Sonora and Georgetown many times too, in fact Marlin and I just went to Rail Town 1887 two weekends ago   Too bad the Shay wasn't running though

Man this all sounds way good. I will just hang loose in Fresburg on Thursday and then head for the camp grounds around lunch time.

I don't know what everyone's plans are on Friday, but I would love to make the springs in one day. Then on Sat. I can head back out and meet people as they drive on in.

As for Sunday, I have always gone back out the Tahoe side, but I have been convinced by numerous people to head back out to Loon. I enjoy that side of the trail anyways, so I would love to wheel it twice in one trip

We plan on going in early Friday and making it to the springs in one day so we'll be there to play and get more pics and video on Sat. and Sun.
We don't plan on leaving till Monday, and so far the plan is to go back out to Loon.

If nothing else you can probably put a tent on our RV site for an extra charge too, but I'm sure one of the other tenters will not mind sharing.

LRS, last year I was told by one of the Marlin crew that the closest campground to the shop would be the Visalia/Fresno S. KOA   http://www.koa.com/where/ca/05180/

I just checked on this campground. It is 40 miles from the shop :hammerhead: there has got to be something closer then that!

Last year we stayed at the shop but this year we will find a campground, hopefully there is something closer! Well there is always Walmart.

OK I found Yosemite Trailer and RV Park. It's about 6 mi. from the shop. It's all full 50 amp hookup with mostly extended stay sites. I'll call later and find out if we'll be able to stay there for a few days.

LRS, you can't tent camp there but I'm sure we can stuff you in a side comparment for the night :disturbed:

as long as it's warm and dry I'm not picky ! well dry is nice and warm would be a bonus but I have slept in a muddy foxhole so I am not picky. but a nice side compartment is better than nothing

If you are not trailering you can stay on someone elses tent site for an extra charge. You just have to tell them at the KOA when you get there.
