hey what gears are you running in your axles??? And how many outputs did you break before the longfield output? and how often. Thats shitty about the front output my buddy has broken his like 4 times now it just explodes the whole front of the case off housing and evetyhin..

He found his problem was to much droop and the driveline would bind and he'd dump the clutch and itd royallt flopp :pokinit: up

i got 4.10 gears, thats why. i broke the output 1 time and decided that was enough to ruin a weekend at the once a year marlin round-up 2 years ago. i didnt want that happening again so i replaced it before my truck ever hit the trail ever again.

going to start working again very soon so i should have some progress in the next month.

I see so do you think 4.56s are any better or should I just re-gear them to 5.38s??

And very nice three link? Or just fix the t case and get it up and running again?

im probably going to skip the 3 link right now. i have most of my parts for it anyways. all i need is some brackets and a couple more joints. i dont have anywhere to do that kind of work to it right now anyways. i think most importantly i need to gear these axles. im going to buy some 5.38s and hopefully an ARB for the rear.

Anything new with this?

So why do the toy cases keep breaking in half like that, i have never seen that before.
Is it just the TC mount you are using or what?

5.29's.

But i don't have duals.

Im just wondering if the reason he keeps breaking housings is the TC mount he has, is it to stiff and doesn't have any movement so the housing snaps or what?

if i remember this right, was rocking solid motor mounts with poly bushings, so the torque was going to the fror cross member, twisting and breaking the cases... or its the reverse. there is a soild mount, and soft mount. torque came into play and the weak spot was the t-case... but now has a 1/2" thick custom t-case mount that should eliminate any movement. so now its dealing with the motor mounts and what do to there because he also kept snapping 3/8" chain??

all from memory from a while back reading on the pirate thread i think. anyways thats the jyst of it

Ah so does it basically come down to the design of that TC crossmember?  Is it because there is not enough give in the bushings so the housing breaks?

Or is it because there WAS play from the torque of everything?

Bingo! Wouldnt running 4.10s put alot more strain on the cases cause they are the only reducer for those big a$$ tires?

What is happening:

He first off has 4.10s in the axles, that is why he kept breaking outputs and whatnot.

Now his issue is having poly t-case mount bushings and stock rubber motor mounts. Old drag racers will tell you, Never do just one thing poly/solid. Reason being is all the stress will be at the more solid mount because the rubber is so soft and has so much more play it's almost like not having a mount there at all.

I was having the same problem but the opposite way. I have rockstomper poly motor mounts and stock t-case mounts. Beacuse of this all my stock motor mount welds kept cracking. I put the TG heavy duty poly t-case mount in my truck justrecently. I will know here pretty soon if that solved my problem or not.

not to sound like a richard but if people read before hand every question on this page was answered in previous pages. He does have 60 birfs on page 63 his truck is there with them installed....

says he has 4.10s right up on page 64 from when I asked. Juds right, The 4.10s kill cases because there getting all of the stress because they are gearing everything down. Also with the motor mounts and t case mounts aswell.

Dingman.

I would say those cross members are not the best design but they will hold up. I have rallied on one I made thats not super beefy for a couple years recently notice it has a small crack starting so Im going to make it a little better this next go around. I would say though if you were wondering if you should get one you should check out 4xinvoations cross members there baller and you can raise your cases rock stock height what ever you please.

everyone hit it right at some point or another. ill just say whats going on right now. i have 4.10s currently. my rear case is solid mounted, my motor mounts were chained solid and i ripped the chains right off the MM's and frame down at the hammers earlier this year. i need to make some custom solid MMs with poly bushings.

I have 5.38 gears for the front end.
I'll own my own set of Dana 60 birfields/drive flanges in a few days along with a spool next week.
I just need to order up some rear 5.38s.

I have zero time to work on this truck so linking the truck isnt happening now till i get laid off which is supposedly in december/january. I work 6 days a week and wrenching/cutting/welding metal on my only day off doesnt sound great when i do that anyways. I actually have my first day off tomorrow in 2 weeks. if i cut apart my truck now it will sit all summer and in the end probably screw me out of going to the round-up. diff gears and front axles is plenty enough of an upgrade to keep this truck on the trail 1 more season with leaf springs and hopefully very minimal - zero maintenance of the truck.

memorial day wheeling looks out the door. there is tons of snow everyone and my :pokinit: is staying right here in town nice and far away from moon rocks. its not built enough yet to actually go have fun over there the way i'd like to.

peace out, im going to the bar for once
