no, its just the part after the motor mounts drops down a bunch. ive met and wheeled with the previous owner of that truck you have. he had it setup nice. id just stick with what you have and kinda replace/fill back in what he took out. its all already done for you and it drove nice on the road from what he told me.

Ya that would probably be a lot less work. I have all of his measurments for how it is set up now also. He was running the 2" .250  wall lowers and he said they held up fine for him so time will tell.

i guess it all depends on the driver and the terrain. my truck will be back down at the hammers for the 4th time. its been to the con numerous times and fordyce as well. though ive never ran a link setup before, im sure mine would be hammered. id recommend just resetting up that truck the way it was. it will get done faster and work great. your lower links will work fine for awhile or maybe for a very long time? it will be good to have that spare too in case you need it for a long drive home.

I'll just try and keep them off the rocks but you know how that goes :smack:  I'll be trailering it so there won't be many long drives home but the one time I bend a lower my tow rig will probably break.

Nice

Would something like this work for you, 2 5/8" width with a 5/8" bolt hole.

Puts the bolt you'd use about 1/2" from the CV joint. Similar to this.

thats close. mine is kinda underneath the output, but my cases are flat at the frame rails. basically im building a 2x3 box x-member thats going to be removable by ( 8 ) 5/8 bolts. the frame rails will have fish plates inner/outer with the bolts running through so it drops right out. you'll see tomorrow.

i got a start on the crossmember. it will have a another piece that looks just like the one coming off the frame on the other side. another piece of 2x3 will go underneath and the links will come off the front of it. the joints should be no lower than 2" under the frame rails. id like them lower/flatter but i dont want them hung up on everything either. the frame rails have 1/4" inside and out and the xmember will be on 1/4" fish plates. it will all unbolt and slide out. doesnt look like much now, but ill make more progress on it sunday or monday.

are you going to sleeve the bolt holes? If not you should ha, my buddy pretty much folded his xmember and it was .250 2x3 I think after time it would egg those out.

Im stoked to see this thing done though whats your goals for up and down travel or are you going to figure that out when the time comes?

i doubt it would egg out a 1/4 plate fish plated inside/outside and the thickness of the frame. plus theres 4 bolts.

I agree Matt, but why not fix a possible future problem right off the bat. I'd be more concerned about after a few bolt checks getting the bolts too tight and starting to crush the frame rails.

i think it will be fine. if its not down the road, everyone can tell me they told me so. the frame is 2x5 right there, box tubing, not to mention the inside of it is webbed. i got 3/4 of an inch worth of plate reinforcing it with 4 (8 total) 5/8 grade 8 bolts holding it all together. 1/4 on the outside, 1/4 on the inside, and a 1/4 on the xmember fish plate. now if that fails, then ill take a :pokinit: and eat it.

ya i agree, i couldn't see it being an issue. already seems plenty built to me. the only thing i think would have simply benefited would be having the fish plates bigger than the mounting plate, that way the mounting plate is distributing on the fish plate better. but since you said that.. i hope it breaks, i wanna see you eat your own :pokinit:.

the crossmember is done. the brackets for the links are made as well. ill weld them on in the morning and have the lowers set in place.

the last crappy picture here shows where the lower is going to sit roughly. i marked 8/9/10" off the inside of the frame rail. the lower is going to be basically under the front output somewhere between 9 an 10" away from the inside of the frame.
