Attention BigMike: How bout some dash plaques for this year? I like those and would love to stick on on my truck. Stickers are cool but plaques are cooler  Oh and whats the cost per vehicle going to be? I cant remember what it was last year.

Yes (most likely). Guys, not only will we have Dash Plaques (most likely), but we are currently working on a professional registration process. Last years "Online Registration" was nice, but the problem was that it listed 300-something rigs as registered, but only 100-something rigs showed up. So we had bought wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy to much food and supplies.

So this year we will be mailing each registrant a packet with a Sticker, Dash Plaques (most likely ), Meal Ticket, And comfirmation for a Camping spot in the Springs.

For those who attended last year, you will remember that we had to personally hand collect $5 from everyone who wished to camp in the springs. I have no doubt that some people camped there without paying and so we had to cover the extra cost for the actual head count vs. money collected in order for us to use the springs and keep the owners happy.

So, this year we will probably have like a $10 signup fee. This will cover the cost for camping and the sticker/dash plaques. I think that is really fair, and the best part about it is that now people who register will really have a reason to ACTUALLY ATTEND.

We are expecting to get a much higher turn out percentage (those who register vs. those registered who attend).

Gonna be a BLAST!

Mike

Hopefully I wont procrastinate until the last minute on signing up.  I'm actually taking time off for MCR5 this year so I can run with the pack instead of wheelin until 1 am just to get to LS

Yeah, I am going to take at least two days off work this time and head to the con like on Tuesday or Wednesday. Last year I got there at 4AM Sat. morning and made the springs by 10am. :idiot:

Yea I worked a full 8-9hr shift in Roseville. Drove back to MArysville to pickup my rig and pack it up. Then drove all the way back to 50 and hit ICe house around 9:00 pm  finally got to the trail head at probably 10-11ish and wheeled for a couple hours trying to find my way because I was totally burnt from work/driving.  I'll take off two days prior and already be up there with camp setup a day before the event this year..

No, no...... You don't want to know what happened that morning...... Oh man

I have never wheeled Rubicon by myself, let alone in the dark. BruceTS was patiently following me as I continued to get us lost over and over. I thought we could save some time by bypassing Gatekeeper from the Lower Bowl route, and it took me about 2 hrs just to find the Bowl. I blew TWO beads just getting lost down there near the Wentworth Springs (?) area. There are SOOOOOOO many trails down there that I never knew existed. Everywhere you look there's a new trail in a new direction. And we would be driving and all of a sudden, it would just be a dead-end into some camp site. So we would turn back and have to go all the way back to where we just were.

Then after the Bowl, I got lost trying to find my way around Loon Lake and we ran into "Boundary" signs about ten times and found a bunch of different camp sites all over the place, which of course were all dead-ends and so we had to retrace our steps.

Man what a mess. We didn't make it to the Little Sluice until 7am. Yes, it took me 3 HOURS just to get to the Sluice Box.

Then I got lost again on the Slabs trying to bypass the Old Sluice but we finally found the trail.

By the time we got through the bottom of the Big Sluice, I had blown a bead for the third time. :ack:

Man that was one long day. I left Fresno at 11pm, got to the trail head by 4am, and got to the springs by 11am. That was a straight 12 Hour trip from Home to the Springs. Non-stop driving. That's something I don't want to do again.

I plan on running Rubicon at least twice before MCR5 so I will finally learn the trail. Everytime I have wheeled it, I have always just followed other vehicles. But there are different routes all over the place at the beginning that I've never seen before. I know how to get through Gate Keeper just fine, but the lower bypass area is a huge mess from what I saw at 4am in the morning.

It was just bad luck. Next time I'm there I'm sure that I will make the bowl in 20 mins from the start and I'll be like "Dang! It's so simple, what the heck happened last time."

Well I dunno bout 20 minute but...ya it sure wont take ya 3 hrs. Haha. Gettin lost out there at night sucks. I was riding co-pilot for overrev on MCR4 and we did bout half the con in the dark. We rolling inot a couple camp sites our selves. Even got out of the truck and walked around looking. Pretty funny actually. I cant wait to drive my own rig this year. I MUST HAVE 30's BY MCR5! Muahahaha I dont feel like changing out 20 birfs.

THat is more then fair Mike. Although I think the sudden spike in gas prices last year had a to do with many backing out as well, now that gas prices have been steadish (albeit high, but now we're more used to it, unfortunately) it is more likely that many that register will show as well.

That must have been crazy Mike, what you scared of the Gate-Keeper? Guess it won't be an issue this year since it is almost a Cal-Trans approved Highway now. :rivers:

That is really ashame about GateKeeper, I will never forget our first experience on the 'con going in through there. It was so awesome! At least we got to do it.
Have they "adjusted" any more areas? You know if we do go this year we will no doubt have pics of MrW doing the soup bowl (or was that salad bowl?) The only reason he didn't do it last year was cause he thought he broke a motormount.

Haven't heard of any more mods to the trail yet, there has been major talk of Little Sluice getting most of the rocks and boulders blown out.
