I am babtist. I used to go to church regularly when I was younger but since I have gotten older I really don't go at all. I just think that you don't have to be in church every time the doors are open to belive in god.` I am a religeous person but I don't need a preacher telling me what I should or should'nt do to get to heaven, but thats just my opinion.

I think paying/contributing for church services is a foolish waist of money. Churches teach man's interpretation of what it thinks god is and wants.

I worship rocks. I don't actually work, I simply practice my religion about 60 hours a week.

Exactly what I'm thinking, like I said on an other thread religion was invented by human for human, I beleive in god or "a power greater then us" but I know there isn't any proof of him, humans need to think they go somwhere, after death and all that, but the truth is that it's an invention of humans. I'm not saying there isn't something after death, just that it may not be what were thinking about.

you could call me a non-religious beleiver.

"the dead are conscience of nothing"  this is disturbing to me.  If what is written is true, then what does this mean.  I believe the words were written by ordinary men for ordinary men.  It does give a lot of people hope, but I haven't seen anything to make me believe even a little bit.

That is kinda my theory, I do go to church regularly, but God is not contained in the 4 walls of a church.  It is when people atttempt to trap God in the 4 walls and say that to be a good christian, you need to go to church that problems come up.  I beleive you are worshipping God just as much while camping or wheeling, enjoying His creation as you are sitting in a pew in church.

I'm with you on that. I was raised roman catholic in a large Italian family but came to find them to be nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. (the practicing catholics, not my family) I won't even begin to talk about priests and their hankerin' for little boys or the fact that I theorize that the catholic church has become a harbor for pedophiles.

I tried the aethestic route for a while, my step-mother and father are aethest's, I found it to be very liberating. My life was completely mine to do with as I please, I was being good for me, not because I felt I had to. But have been too many things that have happened in my life that just can't be written off as coincidence.

As far as when you die...I have a theory on that ...I'm full of theories...our bodies are mostly energy (I theorize that is why we can sometimes "read" other people thoughts, they are more energized then others, and/or we are more receptive. and did you ever have a dream about going somewhere you had been before, especially if it's somewhere you miss being, and the dream is so real you believe you were there..you were...your energy traveled while you slept..)

anyhoo, I digress.....when you die your energy (what might be considered the soul) doesn't die off, it goes off into where ever the energy of everything goes, your energy might live in the house you were murdered in (ergo "haunting" the house) it might just float about forever, and perhaps...be reabsorbed into the forming of another living entity (reincarnation). It's not a consciousness.

And and while we're at it...one of my favorite lines (who knows where this is from?):

The Argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist" says God, "For proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing." "BUT," says Man, "The Babel Fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It proves you exist, so therefore you don't. QED." "Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that." And promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. "Ooh, that was easy." says Man and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets killed on the next zebra crossing.

I believe in aliens and that we were put here on this earth because we are self destructive and we destroy everything around us. What other creature does this? I also believe that if we are generally good and aren't stealing or killing we will get a second chance. I believe in a higher power, but not willing to call it a God, just a higher power. Man kind was not meant to know everything and will destroy themselves before figuring out all the secrets of the universe.

All I meant was that in many case you can tell if people are religious or not by the way they are, or in this case, how they conduct themselves on the board.  This isn't meant to be judgemental because it isn't a requirement to be religious to be a good person.  It was mostly an observation.

I work with a guy that claims to be religious, but he doesn't do anything about it or act on it in any way.  I think that people get religious (i.e religion) and spirituality mixed up.  To me religious means some form of religion, while spiritual simple means believing in something beyond ourselves (i.e a higher power).

I was raised Baptist...then moved to my moms and went to a catholic school for a while, Now I am non-religious I don't really believe in anything except that I'm here now and when I'm dead, I'm dead. I think Darwin was onto something, evolution. It is the only thing that makes any sense to me. But, if religion works for you than more power to ya. I don't knock anyone for what they believe(except the Halebop comet thing a couple of years ago, THEY WERE NUTS!)

Well said, Some people need to believe in something for guidance and that isn't a bad thing. There is nothing wrong with living your life by the Bible. I just don't believe it the church and the twisted way they go about teaching it.

I never saw the movie (nor heard of it for that matter) but I googled your quote and came up with this:

"Yeah man, you didn't know that? This country was founded, founded by people who were into aliens man. George Washington man, he was in a cult. And the cult was into aliens, man. You didn't know that? Oh man, they were way into that type of stuff."

I agree with you.  I believe that there are other worlds out there and ours is just a very miniscule part of a huge system of different beings and planets.  I believe that the other worlds are far more advanced than ours and that they are observing us.

Just thought I'd throw that out there  :hammer:

Exactly but I wasn't gonna state that

Actually, I believe that they are watching us to see how the battle between good and evil goes.  The entire universe serves the same God and our world is the test of his character.  I think the other worlds feel sadness when they watch us suffer.

:smack: I forgot!!  thanks for reminding me, I'll see if I can find it tonight, get it up this evening or tommorow.

I'm curious, according to SDA, what about cops, Firefighters, and so forth?  I' know you said medical is ok, do they fall into the same catergory? and is it all medical. or just necessary/emergency medical??

moreso I believe that we are aliens and in fact everything on this planet is a product of lots of alien DNA from all over out there. Like alien DNA stew.

That when the planet was being formed and was being bombarded by meteors for eons these said meteors had also winged other planets. These other planets already had developing life which was the product of other meteors having impacted their planets eons ago with other alien DNA that morphed into various species on each planet according to the combination of DNA left behind.

Ergo, as other meteors carrying varying DNA's impacted our planet they combined in different ways to create all the species we see today. And then some.

I mean com'mon, can you actually look into the eye's of a dragon fly and tell me that is not an alien hovering there checking you out??

I too (like BD and FFC) am Seventh Day Adventist.

Reading thru the posts, I saw the confusion about keeping the Sabbath Holy. The way it was explained to me (by somone who knows a whole bunch more than me) is that if you are doing something that is for the good of people (Medicine, police, fire etc) that you are not breaking the Sabbath. You are encouraged to not work on the Sabbath if possible, but there are some professions where this is not possible.

The reason I'm SDA, is that as far as church goes, I think they have done the best at keeping the Bible as the center of their beliefs. They do not rely on "Tradition" to guide their activity or worship, but actually look to God's word for guidance.

Can someone real quick breakdown exctly what it is that SDA beleives?  it sounds pretty similar to my beliefs, other than the working on sunday.  I am pat of the baptist faith, we go to Trinity Baptist.  I dont agree with all of the church covenant, but I do agree with most of their beleifs.

In a nutshell (which is where most of us belong...heheh) the SDA chuch believes in keeping the tenants of the bible. We encourage spending time studying the bible, and learning directly from the word of God. We try to keep things simple. We pray directly to God/Jesus, and not to some patron saint of (insert topic here). We are not fogiven of our sins by a priest, but by God himself. There are no Hail Mary rosary beads to be manipulated. It doesn't matter how many Our Father's you say. It's about developing and nurturing a relatioinship with our creator, and learning about his love for us, and how we can, by the instructions provided in the Bible be granted a place in Heaven when he comes to redeem us.

Is that "quick" enough. One could probably go on and on, but I doubt that is the intention of this thread.

Hope that helps
