As for siping your tires, I did mine with just a utility knife.  I just did a couple lines across each tread block, to give me some wet/icy weather traction, since I don't have a second set of tires, like I did for the nissan!  But the ice and snow out here on the coast is nasty slick.  You got to have siping done!
