If the compression is too high with low octane you'll experience knock which is no bueno for engines. Being your daily driver you don't want too much compression because you'll have to run 92 octane and timing becomes much more critical to prevent predetenation... A good trick is to smooth out any sharp edges in the combustion chamber of the head to lower the chances of hot spots developing on the thin peaks which can cause knock.  Lower compression is a lot easier to tune and deal with for a daily driver :beerchug:
Ah. Ha!! I remember  reading this on my first forum.  But just now made connection..... :hammerhead: thanks twisted.

So what's this ? Are you ditching the EFI turbo hybrid build?? :yikes:

yep. dollars per pounds doesn't add up for me... with what I am trying to achieve will be much more cost effective to go with an inline 6 turbo; ALREADY EFI & BOOSTED. I'm not giving up on the EFI turbo hybrid though, my dads 80 2wd is in need of an engine :beerchug: we have blocks, cranks, and heads!!!  :cheese:

Well that kinda a bitter sweet. But atleast you will really see how that hybrid would feel with your dad's 80.

Would the i6 really fit  though? And also how much were you expecting it to be for a turbo hybrid? And what pistons would you have used?

Yeah still might build it for my 93. Gonna cost well over 3 grand just for parts plus machine work... yes they fit you just have to not be shy with a cutoff  wheel!  I would have ran CP or Arias pistons. I don't care for Wiesco's...

Hmm. Good to know.  A buddy of mine is it big turbo nut and thinks they belong on everything haha.  said if i fuel inject it, then he wants to turbo it. Its definitely something I would consider but it is probably something I should leave for later on down the road and I should just focus on getting her running again for right now.

for a Supra 7MGE 6 cylinder to fit in a first gen engine bay (much smaller than a second gen) you would have to mount the radiator on the front bumper.  there just isnt room to make it work.

Sure. Well that's some good to know info. I wasn't really  planning for a supra motor I  mine. It'd be sweet. But not really what I would care for. For the work done to make it happen.

Just a happy running hybrid .

So from what I'm gathering. Just a stock  20r head (hopefully still from marlin) and an early block 22r with the early piston (not the later pistons) and then just sand done any casting flaws, and sharp edges  with in the chambers. To help with detonation  timing. And no trimming or machining. Just make edges smooth. Yay.?

hey guys, there is a 22r early block bored .030" over no crank. pistons. guts, etc. just the bored block for $40 . ya or nay for a hybrid?  would this make copression too high?

X2, it never hurts to have a good spare engine or block around.  I say buy it, but have somebody check it out or see if you can find out where he had it machined to verify they do quality work.

Also, just to avoid confusion, simply boring it will not increase compression.

Well the guy with the 22 R Block has not responded yet so I think he must have sold it. I was a few days late to seeing it anyway so not too surprised about it. but on a happier note, Thanks! This has been my dream for quite some time now, so cool to actually know I own one now. And as far as interior shots go I hope to get some soon but my girl is up in Glenwood still on my friends property, I am hoping to either build / buy a motor down here in Denver once I drum up enough money and then go up there and install it. when I'm up there I will try and get the interior shots, I hope they come soon enough. and speaking of motors there is a 22re late style truck for $800 and then a 22re engine for 400. I called and emailed but no response. just keeping you guys in the loop.

And by the way, there's a 22re motor for $200. It's just not built. All parts included. Just needs to be assembled.. He said reason for sale.  Is it had a leaking head gasket. And they no longer need these motors on the shelf.  So just wants to get rid of it.  Safe buy or nay??.

The parts alone make it a complete safe buy. I just picked up the same set up just the ring were shot. Complete motor with all efi and harness for $150 and I couldnt believe the price! If I were you I would jump on it. Where are you located by the way?

You truck is a 4x4. What do you mean by make it 4 wheel drive, A crawler build?

And now that I have my 4runner my rear behind my seats will be my "camper"! I plan on stained wood 2x6's! Should be nice when its done !

No not quite a crawler.  Haha. That's a bit too risky for me.  To attempt a camper crawler. As sweet as that sounds... mmm... but something I can "Camper Camp" in places no other mainstream camper could even think about making it to.

I want to leave them in just make it a wood floor behind the seats. Hopefully ill make it to where when I fold them down its all even and flat. Plus I want to make a canvas top so I'm not so top heavy while wheeling!
