You wre looking for a blaster. Watch this about 6 min in. Its a 5 gal bucket and the hose/nozel from a blast cabinet. Small cheap and looks like it really works!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFuT-mpQHhI
I have one of the tank style ones from harbor freight. You are welcome to use it if you supply your own abrasive.
I don't know. I haven't used it yet. You can be the first. It was given to me by a guy who bought and never used it and wanted to give it to someone who would.
If you are blasting paint and a lite rust you could go fine sand or glass. Blasting hard rust or a lot aluminum oxide, stuff cuts like a beast. Plastic or walnut will remove paint but not rust.
Hi Andrew- The problem is not so much with the e-locker side gears it's the axle shafts being used. Some are shorter than others. Here is a copy/paste from my info page....Below is a copy/paste from my friend Jim Hughes in New Mexico and is in regards to the retrofit e-lockers that are breaking the sidegear(usually the passenger side goes first)...good info to know.... Zuk, I’ve attached pics of the side gear and axle damage. I did confirm the 2nd gen 4Runner 1989 – 95 (Coil Sprung) rear axle shafts are approximately 7mm longer than the 1986 – 94 leaf sprung “IFS” axle shafts. This additional length should help from twisting the side gear as the axle will go into the beefy part of the gear, not just the collar.
I'm not sure I wouldn't give it a good look all over and if no other cracks or problems I would run it. Other option. Is to have it tigged up and machined. WHich could be $$. Could it be an oil return or something?
Looking great. You'll love selectable lockers, especially with your 4Runner being your every day driver. You'll have to be careful because if you get too built a lot of the challenges off road go away. There are times that I'm sure I'd have a lot more fun if I actually had to work to make it up something rather than just going pretty much anyway that I want. There are certainly places that challenge me, but the more you build the fewer there are.
