Are you not getting enough torque? What size is your exhaust?

Since the swap, I feel like it has to get up in rpms to get to that sweet spot .Exhaust pipe is 2 1/4" 16 gauge

2.25" isn't small on a 4 cyl

I've got a 2.5" from the header back, no cat, flowmeter 40, and it feels a bit restricted.. it's a 22RE with ENGNBLDR's 261 cam and Doug thorley Tri y header though so that might make a difference

Shouldn't feel restricted. Toyota motors love 2 1/4 exhaust so you should have too much flow especially with no cat and a flow 40.

Perfect answer. Yotas love 2 1/4" exhaust, so you shouldn't need to install this flange to increase back pressure.

I'm curious what kind of compression you have now..

I can feel this power in the pedal, before starting swap, it felt great in donor vehicle. the donor had stock giant muffler, I made my own exhaust system, used a muffler my buddy is selling, it may not have enough back pressure, that's the only thing I can think it could be. I also used mandrel bends, which will free it up a tad as well . I figure if it makes it better, great!, if not, I'm out 15 bucks w/gaskets. I'm more curious then anything :headscratch:

your original 22 was rebuilt, not too long ago right? I wonder if the new engine just isn't as as robust as the one you built, and that is the difference you are feeling

A stock 3rz vs a 22re is a major difference. I think what he is feeling is te nature of the 3rz engine. It has torque at low rpm but not the same torque as a 22re. I have had both vehicles still have a few of each. The 3rz doesn't really do much until about 3k, once you reach it there's no doubt it's rolling along then.

Dingman.

He drove my tacoma with a 3rz. So im sure he can somewhat compare it.  Eventhough his is on 35"s and 4.88's but Dave should have a rough comparasion.

HogCanyonHopper

He needs to go 5.29's  :burnout:

My 98 taco with 4.10 and 31s was nothing at all like my 83 with 4.56 and 33s. A friend has a 96 taco with 4.56 and 32s. All different games to be played. None really feel as if they have a dead spot though. Might just need a little more gear dave.

its more power then I had, for sure.  :driving: I can get 70 mph in 3rd no problem, it pulls 4th gear pretty hard, I have a lot of hills here, so I can definitely feel the difference. its probably just me  :hammerhead:

I bought some thermally conductive epoxy for waterproofing Electronics. I was going to fill up my ECU so it could go swimming. Haven't gotten around to it though.

You might try Holmes Hobbies, I know they epoxy pot RC car electronics.... you can probably also do it yourself with corrosion x

I think he was talking about sending out his computer for programming. I don't know who does it personally, but megasquirt is a company that makes ECUs for the 22RE

decided to pull spark plugs, found #1 and #2 to be finger loose. found a tear in #3 plug wires, looks to go halfway through. ordered some ngk tx67 wires, and picked up 4 plugs from Toyota. got new plugs in, and snugged, waiting on wires  :turtle:

I know they are expensive but I would have recommended the factory Toyota wires.
I have used the Ngk wires for customers. they fall apart when age gets to them.
The Toyota wires last for almost ever.
