Hay Mike, why dont you chart everybody out, and start the convoy from the south. This way, the people from south of fresno can start it traveling up 99, then put approx times when they hit fresno, then those people join in. By the time you reach Sac, you will have a large convoy. Everybody key into the same CD channel, and it will be like the movie Convoy!!!

Dude, that would be SWEET! You know, back in my MR2 days, we would have meetings where upwards to 100 1st and 2nd gen MR2's would meet in a parking lot. Then we would all depart and go on a nice fast-paced scenic drive for about an hour. At first it was really really cool to see nearly 50 MR2s in front and behind ya taking up about three blocks of traffic lights in a coastal city. Then when we would hit the backroads, only the Superchargers and Turbos could play near the front and it would eventually dwindle to around 10 Turbo 2nd gens and a couple Superchargered 1st gens.

It was really really fun and with Yotas it would be even better since there is so my more customization and uniqueness, plus we have the CBs. Just imagine 50 trail-built rigs cruising down the freeway.   

That's the best Idea I've heard of - I will start a post later tonight when I update the registration page.. Let's see how that goes

Who is all  goin to the round up from sacramento?   I think we need to organize like a convoy or something...  So far i think it will be me, Dirtbag josh 84runner, blackdog...  I got three rigs in my group... i think the more of us in a convoy the better..  Post up if your down to meet up and convoy up to the con... we could stop in pville or something to get some food or something...im down for whatever...

We could do what TV said, still, and let the faster people toward the front, because once we hit the hills, everyone'll have to drop speed, or we'll lose some people.  I know I can drive up those hills
going about 60, but I'm sure there are those that can keep up 70, and a lot who cant keep 60 just an idear  


Or we could convoy to placerville, and split into groups there, kinda time it seperately a little, give the 1st group a half hour head start or something like that, mabye an hour, and then have the next group leave.  WIth all the rigs there, I doubt if anyone would mind waiting, since they'd get to :bull crap: around, and see other folks rigs

Granted it would be  to have that many trucks rolling down the freeway but I think it could turn into a mess real quick. Once you hit Icehouse, you'd have trucks that can go quickly stuck behind a guy with a trailer going really slow, just a whole lot of congested traffic. Then like Mike said, when you get to the trailer/staging area, you'd have guys trying to park tow rigs and unload along with a bunch more guys airing down, pulling mud flaps, etc. and it would be crazy down there. Then the worst of it, you would have 50+ trucks ready to start the trail @ the same time. Talk about trail congestion, espeacially with the mix of guys who will cruise the trail no problem and guys who are on their second or third wheeling trip ever learning what a good line looks like.

I would say stick with people being responsible for getting to the trail head wether they want to meet up with a few guys or head up alone. The idea of getting people in touch with locals to caravan with is cool, I just think a snowballing group up there is going to be difficult after a while.

I already told the wife we are heading up Thursday after work and we'll just sleep on the trailer under the buggy.    Anyone is welcome to join our caravan of 1 if interested.

The PNW crew is caravanning down in one large group.  So far there will be a minimum of 10 rigs of which maybe 4 are driving down the rest are beings trailered.  Im hoping we can be there by thursday but chances are we'll be there friday evening.  So someone save us a killer camp site and save me a beer or12......

I think if you plan it right Mike, lots of people can join together, but some may want to stop and eat, or hang out for awhile. So if you do plan it that way, you know not everybody will join, but you will get a decent group. As for airing down, I wouldn't mind standing around checking out other peoples rigs..

Brendan is correct. You basically have a 2-lane road wit enough room on the shoulder for a rig to be parked there. Would NOT be a good idea. A better idea is sending groups in, then meeting up on the slabs/bowl area. my


we could prolly have the people who drove their rigs go down off the dam, air down, & head in, then every one who trailered their rigs go in, it would space it out, and be sorta fast enough to not get people stuck on the trail.

all I know is we're going to need to ride with some others that know what the heck they're doing. MrW is going to try to get some local practice of obstackles where we can but we're sure not going to find any big rocks round these parts.
BUt looking forward to the challenge and meeting everyone. It would be cool to get some video of everyone showing up.
Our plan is to be camped out in the area of the Lake Loon trailhead by Thurs. night, hopefully we'll be able to hook up on the road with any of the east coasters that are going to make it and caravan over the rockies.

then slide on up to tahoe,   unless theres a better way to come into placerville???

you may want to check,I dont think you can drive across the damm. you have to take the detour

I think our plan is to go across on 80 and take a different route home. I have to get a map to check it all out, but we want to be able to see the Grand Canyon, and find out what else is along the way. I have no interest in seeing Vegas.

We're thinking of looking in to what it would take to do some of Route 66 on the way home. There are still supposed to be some real kitschy places along Rt 66 that would be fun to see.

Oh, we get to go across Donner Pass that way. Oh crap, Grand Canyon is in AZ? Why was I thinking it was further north? Maybe we will look at your route Glen.

HA! But The Grand Canyon is just north of Flagstaff, AZ which happens to be part of the Route 66 route. Looks like that will probably be the return route.

Yeah there are a couple of camp sites above the trailer/staging area. You can camp there if you want or even start the trail a bit and set up camp off to the side some where. I will be leaving Fresno about 5 Thursday night so I'll probably roll into Loon about 11 or 12. I figure I'll crash on the trailer under the buggy and the wife can take the cab of the tow rig, she doesn't like sleeping under the stars (or transfer cases as it might be    )

60 on the hills who are you kidding we can't even do 50 on the hills here in Florida I can just see it now 2nd gear at 25 to 30 climbing those hills in Ca.  Wait we won't be driving the Mammoth there. The Power Stroke should be able to handle it.

Sweet. How many do you have with your group? When the time comes I will be sure and PM you. What day are you leaving? If you leave on thursday night, where do you plan on staying at? September is still a long time from now, but I just want to get all this ready. I told my parents I am ditching that friday from school, they kinda grumbled but I said its a huge 4x4 thing, they smiled and said ok...its cool.

That sounds like it could be a plan. We'll definately take I-80 on the way out, it's a shorter trip and we'll be chompin' at the bit to get there. I ordered DeLorme 5.0 Topo USA mapping software last night.

I got good deal on it through Amazon, and thanks to the Mammoth and my Amazon Visa, I had a $25.00 reward certificate too.

As soon as I get that I'm going to start printing out maps of our route. It'll be cool to see the topography too. We'll be able to have the software on the laptop we'll have with us too, and it works in conjunction with a GPS if we can figure how to hook that all up together.
