Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to drop in and say Hi.  I just signed myself and my 82 Trekker up for this run and plan to tow it out from Ohio.  Looking forward to the gathering and the run and meet the crew at Marlin and wish the man a Happy B-Day

Just got the hook up from Dean on the last of the parts for the build up and looking forward to running the Trail.

This is about halfway thru the build.  Headed to Tellico in 3 weeks and it will be all done by then.


Brief History:

82-83 Toyota sent 1200 mini trucks to Winnebago to become the "Trekker"  Winnebago removed the factory bed and built a fiberglass one with a matching hard top (fiberglass also) It was basically a concept vehicle and spawned the birth of what is now the 4Runner.  A trekker is basically a highly modified mini truck.  Winnebago issued separate VIN numbers for each one and a true trekker will have that Winnebago sticker under the steering column. 

Of the 1200 made in 82-83 25 were shipped overseas to Saudi Arabia.  The remaining were sold in Colorado and California.  They are as rare as Rocking Horse Poop was the quoate I first heard about them and it stuck in my head.

Of the 1200 made this one is number 37

I moved from NJ to FL via CA.

I lived in San Francisco from about '86-'89, my sister is living there now and will probably come up to Loon Lake to say hi and see us off on the trail.

I am so looking forward to this road trip, I can't wait to start planning the trip and all the sites we'll hit along the way.

that trekker bed looks kinda like the rear panels of the late 60s early 70s blazers and pickups.  That is an awesome trekker by the way.

I hear ya'.  Seems most use Cali as a waypoint for the final stop.  Dad was hired by PG&E as the HR Director in 82 and out we went.  Went to Ygnatio (sp?) Valley and learned more in the 7th and 8th grade in Cali than in my future days in Ohio combined..:-)

It does.  I'm in limbo with the bed cause it's wider than a Mini Truck bed and not like a Runner bed.  So getting things like a bumper can be challenging.  The Fiberglass is a mixed omen: doesn't mix well with Rocks and hard to repair when damaged.  Positive is it won't rust and the frame rails are in EXCELLENT shape.  Amazed really.  This truck is CLEAN.

Marlin has me covered. Just ordered a mini truck bumper from Dean yesterday.  The mounts are all the same underneath and will massage it a little on the width.

HOLY COW!!!!!  That's beautiful...the topper looks like it's in good shape too.  Wow, mine was beat to the point I made my own soft topper.

Should we be instituting some kind of a limit here? Does anyone know what it's gonna be like if we have 150 rigs all waiting at Loon Reservoir?

Hate to say it but I think there should be a cap on it. Still over 4 months to go how many would be signed by then

A cap might be a good idea. I've heard the Jepers Jamboree is nasty in there and I think they run like 250-300 Jeeps through. Is there an official meeting/departure @ Loon or are we all just meeting up @ the springs and moving through as we see fit?

That would be the best idea, just everyone meet at the springs on Saturday night. Trying to move 100+ rigs all at once is not gonna work.

But I'm sure that out of the 125+ registered right now, there will only be about 80 rigs or so.. So if we have 200 registered I'm betting it'll be around 130 rigs who actually make it and we see them. At least that's whats happened in the past..
