Well I joined the other 2 amigos for zippo's SAS yesterday. It was a long sweltering day but we got a :pokinit: load of work done. Me and Nate showed up around 9:30 and Jase already had the truck on the lift and the bolt on stuff all removed from the passenger side. Typical of him he just gets stuck into it right away and starts getting it done.  :flamer:

Me and Nate started helping him get the Driver side bolt on stuff removed and ended up scaring up the concrete and I broke a SK wrench trying to get the pitman arm off  :suprised:

After all the bolt on stuff was removed, Bob Jason's Father in Law showed up and he and Jason started using the plasma cutter to cut all the welded on bracketry off. The plasma cutter kept giving them a hard time so Jase had to bust out the torch for a bit while Bob tried to get the plasma working again. Check out the sweet Mad Scientist goggles  :rofl2:

While those two went about their work me and Nate got into taking the rear axle and leaf springs out.

Then came everyone's favorite time...grinder work!

Followed shortly by hole sawing the frame for the front shackles and welding up the front spring hanger.

Springs and axle lined up perfectly and looked great under the truck.

I had to head out to catch a Ferry at 7 but as you can see above those two kept at it. Its been a very long 3 weeks and I think it is time to enjoy our 4th of July and catch up on some rest.

So more progress today.Got everything lined up to be done next weekend. Well driving. Would still need to swap the rear diff, get the front shaft made and cut the hood.

I am using backing plate eliminators and haven't found a good products for mounting the brake line. So I made my own, this is how I did it. WIth the ARP knuckle studs I have some extra thread on top. So I made this bracket.

I need to get some half height lock nuts. But this works awesome.

Cut and welded the front tower gussets and well as the fron steering stabalizer and rear axle shock mounts. Installed the front and rear shocks. Everything was also torqued and is ready to go for the most parts.

I really like the NAPA Eclipse calipers. They come painted.

This pic makes me laugh at how dirty the underside of my trucks it. It really isn't that bad in person this pic makes it look like 2" of dirt.

Give me a price on shipping to 97141.  I know it would be the cheaper route than driving up and back.

Also, I will be out of town for a week.  And will have very limited access to internet.  Going to California to visit family.  Well, I will have internet access, but when on vacation I tend to avoid it at all costs.

Even more done. SAS is all but done.

One problem. The front brake lines I ordered are too long. Will have to get some shorter ones. And I need a 1/4 spacer on the front or I have caliber contact. Brakes are bleed and working.

Pushing the steering box forrward gave me good tie rod angles. No binding or contact.

Brake line bracket worked great

All loaded up for a trip to the exhaust shop.

If you see it, its for sale.

THX! Its awesome lots of little things to finish up. Gotta get the front drive shaft done. Swap the rear diff. Clean up the ECU harness. Found teh hood is touching so that will need some cutting and a few other small things.

The only problem I have found is with the rear case. When coasting or when you press the clutch(no foward load from the engine) I gett a little chatter from the rear case. When under load it is quiet and smooth. So I will have to pull it and give it a look. Must have missed something when I threw in the low range gears.
If you see it, its for sale.

You have a cv on the rear shaft?

zippo

So I am having a hard time finding the source of this noise. I pulled it out today and did a little more clearencing in the low range box. But still have it. It only does it when coasting when underload it is smooth and makes no noise. It is louder and more frequant in 4wd. Possibly a drive shaft issue? I will pull the case again and go through the hole thing. The rear shaft is running at 18.5 degrees. Rear pinion sits up 77 degrees. Do I need to go with a CV in the rear?

If you see it, its for sale.

Weird Noise

If you see it, its for sale.

After some more checking. I think I found a possible source of the problem. The passenger side rear wheel, is crazy tight, and when you spin it, it makes a noise which matches what I am hearing. Will pull the wheel apart tomorrow. Might be a bearing or something.
If you see it, its for sale.

With a standard driveshaft I thought the t-case flange and the 3rd flange should be parallel so that the two ends are operating at the same angles.

With a CV driveshaft I thought the 3rd flange should point directly at the t-case flange so that the standard joint on the 3rd end has no angle in it.

Sounds like you have the CV alignment with a standard driveshaft?  I must be missing something because I would expect major vibration.

I agree with you blackdiamond. Also doesn't Toyota run the slip splines at the diff end? Sounds like you have a bad bearing anyways. Don't forget to make sure it isn't a bad u-joint.

Latest I heard from him this morning was that he thinks it is a wheel issue due to his father in law leaving the e-brake engaged while towing it to and from the exhaust shop.  :hammer:
