For the check engine light, start by pulling the EFI fuse for like 10 minutes to let everything reset.

For the timing, be sure you've shorted the Te and E1 terminals in the diagnostic port BEFORE adjusting the timing to factory settings (look on the underside of your hood- should be like 5*)  this will set the base timing, and when you remove the jumper wire the ECU will take over and control the timing.

If the check engine light returns, re-install that same Te to E1 jumper wire and count the number of flashes the check engine light makes.  Example:   blink, blink, blink (short pause) blink = code 31.  blink blink blink (long pause) blink blink blink = code 3
Once you know the code or codes in the system, it'll be a lot easier to correct the problem(s)

Very true.
For the Te and E1 terminals I use a P1000 specialty tool

Brandon

oops, yea I didn't do anything special when I timed it so I am sure something is slightly off. Come on back anytime as long as you don't leave it  :ha_ha:

Ok, went out and tried all the timing stuff, got a little into it and the exhaust started spewing white smoke, water started drpping out of the exhaust, and there is chocolate milk gunk on the inside of the oil cap.  I am pretty sure we wiped it out, but I am gonna do it again just to check.  Needless to say, I am pretty darn pissed at the moment. :maddest: Not sure what I am gonna do if it is the same problem, cause we replaced that headgasket.  Head was ok too, we threw a straight edge on it, and it was stright, so what does that leave??  unless someone else knows, I'm thinkin cracked block, which will piss me off to no end.

Brandon, think i could swing by and borrow your compression tester??  Dont worry, not gonna bnring the truck back, There is no way in hell I would do that to you again.  Might borrow that towbar so I can get it back to my parents place though :driving:

Oh yeah, codes for check engine came up, but my manual doesnt have the codes  :smack:   If anyone has them that would be great, i'm gonna try to find them online.

That straight edge rocked on there, I dunno how straight it was but really that doesn't tell ya much anyway - ya gotta have the thing tested to really know. You might have a hairline crack in it somewhere..

I am sure reklund5 would probably know best but damn.. you deserve to have that thing run like a champ for all that work :(

No prob on the tow bar, anytime..

There is also a leak down tester, etc..

Blackdog-

From the codes you have, I'd say you left the airflow meter unplugged or unplugged it while the key was one.  No biggie.  The knock sensor code is probably caused by a faulty knock sensor wire.  (the one that goes from the sensor to the main harness and slips under the intake manifold)  That little wire should be replaced anytime you replace the upper intake manifold gaskets or take the heads off.

If you've got milkshake in there again, its possible you've got a cracked head somewhere or tore the back edge of the headgaskets while re-installing the heads.  Either way it sucks and you've gotta take the heads off again.   If they mix fluids, that is usually caused by one of the headgaskets failing at the back near the firewall, but it's impossible to say until you tear it all apart.

???

Sorry to hear the bad news...

you've got my luck man..

anyway, you got the process down now  :disturbed:  I was a bit confused as to why the first head gasket wasn't ripped, that isn't normal. So.. maybe it isn't the head gasket  :disturbed:

where is your parents place?

BTW THIS is a blown HG (look between the cylinders). These type are a bit harder to troubleshoot too, since no water ever got in my oil.

Parents place is in Vacaville.  Not too bad, could be a lot worse.  No kidding on the process.  I really dont think we tore that head gasket when we put it back together, in fact I am almost positive that we didnt.  We didnt have hardly any trouble getting that head back on.  It was getting it off that was the problem :smack:  I'm betting that there is something else wrong, either with the head or the block.  Knowing my luck, the block is cracked :hammerhead: but I guess I'll find out.  Time to go digging again. :headshake:

you need to sign up for AAA road service..

100 mile tows FREE, 3 per year. I have gotten towed from the rubicon home on the tahoe side before, FREE. Well ya gotta pay for the service but is worth it!

You don't need to have them for insurance either, it's a different service.
