hold your horses, should be getting a trailer tommorow so I can tow my truck home, and we are gonna pick up the engine at the same time.  wafflers truck has a bent frame, so I am no longer able to use that resource   Hopefully tommorw I will be the proud owner of another 3.0.  Then this weekend its : :_order: time

No, spent the weekend chasing down a truck (wafflers is dead) and a trailer to get the truck to Vacaville.  Finally got a trailer set up, and my boss is gonna let me borrow his truck to get the engine.  We are towing the truck to Vacaville on Wed, and gonna get the engine on friday   Cool thing about where we are gonna pull it is that wafflers dad has halogen lgihts on a stand, so we can pull longhours with plenty of light.  On Sunday night, I hope to hear my trucks heartbeat again

do have some questions though.  I know what I need to pull, and I know what to detach, but is there seal between the engine and tranny?  I wanna buy any parts up here at a supply shop before I go to VV.  Also, are there any loose components to watch out for in the clutch asembly? that i need to secure to keep them from falling out?  oh yeah, after I get it together, how do I bleed the p/s system?

I think that is it for now.

:driving: Cool

There shouldn't be any seals between the engine and trans unless you want to replace the rear main seal on the engine. You can look at the back behind the flywheel to see if it is leaking, but I wouldn't mess with it unless it is leaking.

Power steering is easy, just add fluid and turn the wheel back and forth until it stops whining and add fluid as needed.

Now would be a good time to check out the clutch parts. Spin the throw out bearing and feel it to see if it is rough or dry. Replace it if it is. Look at the thickness of the clutch disk, I think it should be around 8mm thick, somebody correct me if I am wrong. A small amount of grease on the pilot bearing would be a good thing. If the engines are a differant year, just pay attention to all the wires and sensors. if they are differant use the ones off your engine so you don't have to mess with the brains or have problems with matching them up.

Good luck  :turtle:

yup, using my wires and stuff.  Clutch and components are only a year old, but I am gonna look at them anyway.  I wasnt sure on the power steering, but that is what I do anyway  every time I have to fill up the reservoir (every 2 weeks or so) thanks Mr. Willy!!!

Mabye this weekend I can solve all my problems (or at least truck problems), and we can shut down my thread forever!!

oh yeah, and I am getting a new power steering pump as part of the deal, one that doesnt leak!!!

Be sure to double check EVERYTHING before turning that key!  After all that work it's easy to forget the simple stuff (like putting on an oil filter...not that I would know...or that I had to go to Wal Mart at midnight to buy kitty litter to absorb the 5 quarts that got puked on the floor....

Anyway, double check and it'll fire up and purrrrr!

Well, she...didnt start right up  First, I found out the injector plugs of the 88 engine didnt match the plugs of the 91, so I had to pull the injectors and switch them.  Then I had to go back because 3 injectors had bad o rings and were leakin all over the place.  Fixed that, then found out the power steerng hoses attached to the "new" pump are leakin all over.  There was a HUGE crack on the inner casing of one of the hoses, and the inner casing was all rotten.  So i had to pull the hoses off the two poser steering pumps I have, and then switch the,.  THat was a lot of fun, especially since the engine was ready to start :smack: Took forever to figure out the timing to get it to even idle, now  have to go back tommorow beause the timing belt is off by one tooth... one freakin tooth!! :maddest:  I took off the timing cover when i got it, and the belt looked fine so i didnt bother taking it off, wish I had now :smack:  Oh well, at least I know what to do

Lets see, some of the differences beteen an 88v6 and a 91v6.
fuel inector wiring connecters.  Had to use all the 91 injectors
ground wire connector at back of engine.  The section on the firewall in the 91 has the female.  The engine in the 88 has the female. go figure  :dunno:
throttle body sensor.  Apparently someone at toyota decided that the squared off version of the 88 wasnt cool enough, so they had to round out the corners, just enough so that my plug wouldnt fit.

Im aure I will think of more, but for right now. that is it

IT RUNS!!!!

Mostly at least, my idle is off, so ryan if you could email that to me I would greatly appreciate it.  It idles and runs, but it idles kinda like it is about to die :dunno:
All vacuum lines are hooked up, and as soon as i give it gas, it runs fine, or really close to normal.  I drove it from Vacaville to Sacramento today (45miles or so) at about 70-75 and it was fine.  Im thinkin that throttle position sensor might solve the problem.  Pics coming soon

Oh yeah, what is the normal operating emp on the guage for the 3.0?  my old engine usually ran at about a 1/4 on the guage, nothing more.  This engine runs at about 1/2, a little less.  It isnt overheating, and Wafflers 4runner runs about the same, so I want to make sure that that is alright.  Other than that, no problems! :hyper:
