My buddy did, however, pull the ORIGINAL as in FACTORY INSTALLED spark plugs out of a 93 4Runner today with like 140k miles on it. They were a little worn :gap:
I can't imagine why

8+ hours saturday, 12+ hours sunday and.. it won't run..

:maddest:

Timing issue, pretty sure none of the cams or crank moved so it's just the distributor (we hope) but We stuck the crank at 0degrees and the #1 pistion up and pointed the rotor to #1, no go. Then we rotated 360 degrees and rotated the distributor 180 degrees and still no go?

What gives ??!?!?!?!

hey blackdog, is it possible to put that cam that was on the head you took off on wrong? Just seems that since both cams have the same size pulley that the marks should have lined up together - was there a keyway for that cam? If not I am wondering that's it??

Can't figure what else it could be...

i think the cam is right...but eassly be off. it beeing off would explain the slop in the belt and the the timeing issue.

thank you fer helping with this.  :beerchug:

I didn't even think of that but it was odd that it had slop, really nowhere for that belt to go down there to allow it to slip.. I mean I tried to "jiggle" it around the crank and it wouldn't move. The more I think about it the more I think that's it.. UNLESS that cam was keyed such that there was only one way to put it in and I have no idea if that's the case. I think all ya gotta do to see is pull the valve cover. Someone that knew the 3.0 would know if those two marks are always "in sync"

If nobody else I guarantee a quick call to Marlin would answer that question and it would tell us wether we need to pull that front cover off and "match" the right cam to the left.

I got off the phone with Reklund a little while ago, and he said if the cam was off, we wouldnt have compression.  I'll default to you on this brandon, but i thought we did have compression.  My ride is coming around 1 to get over there, so hopefully I can get this sorted out and my truck out of your driveway.  Reklund also siad that it is most likely the distributor, there is a way to line up the shaft with the casing, that i dont remember doing.  He thinks that is the problem.  he said to pull the upper timing cover, and crank the #1 pulley to TDC.  then align both the camshaft pulleys with their marks  on the inner timing cover. put the belt on etc, etc,  then crank the engine around 2 times, the #1 cylinder should be TDC, and the marks should be aligned on the inner timing cover.  Then go from there to distributor.

distributor, the contacts on the inside of the distributor dont match the plug alignment!  the contacts are off some, same pattern, but the contact is not where the plug wire enters the cap!!\

Some more stuff for me to try.

And the running time count for a headgasket job??  24 hours.  8 on sat, 16 on sunday :rivers:

I translate to take off front and align all marks, crank over twice and then put in the dizzy to one.

The camshaft timing marks should point straight up!!!  There are small grooves on the steel timing cover BEHIND the camshaft pulleys that line up with the groove on the camshaft pulleys!  Also, be sure you've got the correct pulley on the correct cam!  The "wall" on one side of the pulley faces the front of the truck on the passenger side, and the rear on the drivers side.

With the crankshaft at "0" on cyl #1 and the cam marks straight up, THEN you can stab the dizzy.  There is a small notch on the casing of the distributor and a mark on the shaft- line those up before you stab it and it should start right up.

Call me with any more questions, I'll call back as soon as I get out from stupid Jury Duty today...

Oh, and to clarify, if the Cams were WAY off, you'd have low/no compression.  If you're only off a tooth or two, it will still have compression but wont run....
