more a question for Ryan, can you put a 3.0 HG gasket on upside down (therefore blocking the passage ways)? Only asking because I have done that before, oops..

the truck is still in one piece for the time being
sometimes me getting pissed and hitting something :tantrum: does more damage than the original problem :rofl2:

Willy Mammoth

:tantrum: :rivers: That realy sucks man, But you don't need me to tell you that. If you are getting that much water in the oil and cly that soon you should be able to see somthing wrong. Now I am thinking it is somthing stupid you are missing, but I don't know anything about that engine so I'm not going to be much help. I am sure you pushed the #4 piston down all the way and checked for signs of cracks rite? You made sure all the holes in the gaskets lined up with the holes in the block and maybe even checked the new gaskets to the old ones to see if they were the same? Gaskets are Toyota gaskets?

I would take out all the plugs and find an air hold adapter to put into the #4 plug hole. Put air pressure into that cyl and see if your water bulbbles in the radiator.  If it does then the gaskets arn't sealing or you have a leak somewhere or a crack in the cyl wall. I wouldn't think the cyl wall would be cracked, but that is allways possible. You will here some air escaping into the crank case this is normal also how much higher is your oil level now from when you filled it? The over heating may be from an air lock around the thermostat. Did you replace the thremostat?

Stop and take a break, think about this a bit before you do anything else. There has to be an answer and it will come in time, but for now you are fustrated and will not be able to see what it is. Go over everything in your head and see if you can remmember anything you may be missing. Also do a search for head gasket problems on toyotas or water in the oil.

If you can't see anything this time I would think about swapping the engine, this will give you the ability to tear it down while driving your truck. Maybe then you can find the problem.

Good luck  :crossed:

I don't think the gaskets are toyota but they are quality - he got them from the local distributor for all the shops in town, not kragen or autozone. I REALLY don't think that is the problem.

derek

dont know on the 3.0 but there may be water jackets through the intake, and it may be a crack there.
if it is then you may just have to replace the intake manifold.

really? I will have to check that out

Thanks you guys, appreciate it

Do have a funny story though, a few days ago a resident of my apartment complex walked over and started  :tantrum:  me out for having my truck parked where it was and working on it.  It was in a space and everything, but she was screaming at me :shudder: She told me she wanted my truck out of there, and that it was supposed to be running and that I wasnt supposed to have broken down vehicles in the complex.  I told her very nicely (had been working on my truck for a while and was having a hard time)  that I didnt want my truck there anymore than she did, and that I was trying to get it running as fast as I could, that was why I was working on it.  Whe n I finished talkin to her, she turned around a nd walked away. I think my lil ole self scared her :dunno:

apparently, if i understood him correctly, there is a plug in the throtle body that can leak coolant srtaight into the #4 piston.  Might be the problem, might not, but oh well.  :hyper: I was just doing that cause I had a wedgie

Just got back from class, I didnt have a chance to pull the throttle body before I left.  I am gonna go pull it now.  However, I do have a few questions.  I got a lead from DB on a 3.0 from an 88 or 89 four runner.  It has 136k on it, had the headgasket recall, and the guy is willing to sell for $600 entire engine, computer, and wiring harness.  What tye of things should I look for?? he already parted out the truck, so i cant hear it run, or is there a way that I can?  Does this seem like a decent deal or not if I have to go this way?

Given your current situation, I'd own that setup!  See if there is any way that you can get some sort of guarantee that it all will run properly tho...

It should drop right in place of your setup, but I'd expect to have to swap a few things out.
