Ramrod

back in the 1800's you did.  It's retro

Hyena

Ok, went an looked at my toy this weekend.  Put the front driveline back on and took it for a little spin to Texxx'x house.  I found out i need new spring bushings soon.  These aren't that bad are they?  I think the bottom of them are totally gone.  I don't think the power steering fluid has anything to do with it wareing away  :)

Ramrod

I know someones whos bushings look like that after every trip.  They just give you more flex is all

Hyena

I don't like the way my springs move almost a half inch either way when i turn the wheel.  And the flex isn't my concern, my shocks limit that.  :(

Ramrod

I bet you had some good death wobble with it like that too.

Hyena

Actually, i had it to about 55mph last week and it wasn't bad at all.  surprising.

RHG

BBW had some death wobble! :yikes: Hyena, you gunna make another 'con run before the weather turns?

A little carnage from last weekends Con run.  A buddy broke some crap on his truck and couldn't make it up a hill.  So i decided to puch his bumper.  Well, his rear bumper slid over my front bumper and broke my light and the grill.  But he made it.

And i threw in a light i had laying around fron a totaled toy.  Looks brand new and works.

I would post the other pictures but my DSL is being a POS and won't bring up my photobucket account.

Pictures from the weekend.    http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8QbtmTJy4cuKA&notag=1

Ramrod

hey brad check this out, just found it this guy knows the good line to take! Thats the line I'll take when I do lil sluice

Hyena

If you ever try Little Sluice!  I think i am going to try that line next time.  the right line is getting boring.  I have seen amny trucks break in that line too.

Ramrod

oh I'll do it don't worry.  all I am waiting for is a backup car to drive when I get home

Hyena

My new light, doh, just remembered from the picture i didn't shut my hood all the way.

And this is how my poor baby sits right now.

crawlerdan

thatsa exasctly how my 85 looked before it becasme as truggy......hinthint :ha_ha:

Hyena

I get the hints  :)  I think the last rear trip i have planned is end of december.  After that it can be torn apart and read yfor the rebuild, when i get the money.  Which shouldn't be too long once i start working.  Good thing i covered it, it is raining up there right now.    :usa:

Whats the general rule of thumb for how long shackles are to get any lift out of them.....   for example i want two more inches on my XJ, how long should the be and is there anything to worry about if i make them on my own?

Hyena

The general rule is if you make a shackle like 1 inch longer, it will lift it 1/2 inch depending on shackle angle.  to get 2 inches out of your jeep you will need to make the shackles 4 inches longer if the angle isn't too much.  You are only lifting half the spring.

Shayne,  i made my own shackles out of 3/8's plate.  I cut them with a torche, grinded the edges and then drilled the holes out.  I think mine are like 9 inches eye-eye or close to that.

Ramrod

we both made our own rear shackles.  the rule of thumb for shackle is they lift your truck half of the length you are extending.  So if you wanted two inches of lift you make the shackle 4" longer.  My rear shackles are 3" longer eye to eye than stock.  they are made out of 2x3x8" flat stock and I think brads are the same just maybe 9 or 10" eye to eye.  i don't think you should have problems making your own shackles as long as you use good sized metal, but if you go really long they will change your pinion angle and that may cause some probs.

Ramrod

you b*std brad you beat me by a couple seconds

Shamb

where'd you guys get that revolver that connects to the shackle?

Making shackles is simple... but i've been seeing so many built exactly like yours I thought they were being bought somewere.

Gonna improve my shackle angle and while i'm at it put some kind of revolver together to give 'er a little more articulation.

Ramrod

oh those little shackles are the ones that come stock on the truck that the springs come off of. or any other chevy truck for that matter.  I think fords have them too.
