That was a joke, but now I'm thinking twice... maybe we need to go there.. especially the post MCR5 night... would that be too cool kicking to post MCR5 Mammothrita's? But how much ice would we actually have left by then?

The strangest thing happened today when I went to start the Mammoth, It would not start and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. Turns out I was jumpping it through the alt for the welder and no power was getting to the battery. Finally after a couple hours of fiddling with it I figured this out and it started right up.

Now, I had planed to make the welder plug in so I could remove it and store it in the tool box. After coming up with the idea of using the ammo box I decided to mount it perminant. Well I had connected the wire that should have been keyed power to the battery at the welder so I would not have an extra wire to fit in a plug. That is where I went wrong. I did not turn off the battery switch and the battery went flat.

I now have it wired properly for the application and have also added a battery plug to connect my jumper cables to for next time the battery goes dead.

After all of that nonsense, I finally got to tryout the welder on aluminum. It works OK, it takes a lot more power to keep an arc and you have to stay with it or it will stop. I think if you prepare the area first or at least have clean metal it will do a good enough job so you can get your stuff home to make better repairs.

I wounder if there is a way to take a tap off the alt before the diodes to get an AC current. This would be much better for aluminum.

:headscratch: but then it defeats the purpose of using the Mammoth to make Rita's since we can just use the LBC. (and we couldn't be running the Mammoth and the blender in the middle of the KOA without someone complaining!)
But we can certainly do that. That would be a lot of fun.
I still say we try to do it post MCR and if we can't savage enough ice we'll just forgo the blender.

You must partake in this ritual, you must make frozen strawberry margarita's with fresh strawberry's on the trail after a hard day of wheeling and sharing with your nieghbor is manditory. It is the most satisfying and relaxing thing you can experience. A regular margarita is fine if you don't like strawberry's but you HAVE TO DO THIS trust me. We even used to have a member that carried his own brewery for beer in the back of his 4Runner. Once we were in Hungry valley wheeling and there happened to also be a rave party there too, he had already consumed more than his share and a couple cute girls kidnapped him took him to the rave and he didn't come back till the next afternoon. I'm sure those 2 girls just tortured him until someone paid his ransom.

OK, here is where we are now.

I started off be making up the new cable for the hand brake, so now that is done.

Diane installed the new rock lights, all 8 of them, but they still need to be wired up.

I extended the roof rack to fit the longer wheelbase and made up a grab handle for the pass side.

Finished the lid on the tool box.

Finished the jerry can holders.

Started to finish the rear deck, but need more material to finish it.

Made up a bracket to mount the spin on fuel filter.

Installed the air compressor and air tank.

Made a bracket and mounted the fire ext.

Still have to do before MCR5,

Install the 5.29's in the spare.

Add a leaf to the read springs and maybe bump stops.

Change exhaust manifold gasket and install pyro gauge.

Hook up rock lights.

Finish deck.

Secure rear seat and install seat belts.

Make a radiator protector plate.

I would like to make door bars too, but there is only 3 weeks left and I am on call for one of them. So  that leaves one weekend and two weeks to get done.  :crossed:

I've got the LBC freezer packed with meat, prepped meals and veggies, and the house fridge and freezer packed with food for the final loading.
Dry goods are packed and I've got to start amassing the clothes.
I want to to a pre-load test on the Mammoth to see how much room we have in the tool box.
Three weeks! 17 days actually!! :thud:

Nope, no need to panic (btw - what is the ultimate question, anyway?)

He didn't get a picture with the diamond plate deck, it looks so cool with the diamond plate deck against the toolbox.

Yeah I figured that picture was just a mock-up and it has since been modified but it does show how cool that deck is gonna look.

Dr. D

Hi guys, This is Dr. D checking in. I've been keeping track of your progress and finally decided it was time to partake of the fantasy of free wheeling in nature. That sure has become quite a rig. Are you going to see if your milling machine will fit in there somewhere? JK

Lady Di

DrD!!  :woohoo:  Glad to see you peaking in!
D'man, you know if he could get a milling machine on it he would!

Two weeks and counting to liftoff!! This weekend is the last weekend Mark will have to work on it. We went to our last Jeep social before the trip tonight.
Mark'll be on-call the week before our trip.
So this is it, the last crunch.
