OK - the truth is, the reason the board was loading so slow and having errors was that there were too many posts per page.
The default is 20 and Mike had it set to 35, so rather then have us end up with over 130 pages he set it to 30 posts her page which put us over our 100 mark :woohoo:

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I know im a bit late, but i figured id post anyways. nice job on the build. and everyone is right, people can learn a lot from you. good job on everything.

I was eyeballing the radiator to see what I could do to improve the cooling and, anybody ever seen this happen?

The core expanded or balooned from pressure.  :yikes: That could have blown apart or worse.  :willynilly:

I wonder if I should put a cooling system pressure gauge on there to see what it gets up to. Hope it is just the heat and not a head gasket leaking by.  :crossed:

It shouldn't get past 16PSI...at that point the cap should vent...I think it was a 16 anyway...

maybe your modified cap seat is causing it to hold pressure?

They DO make caps designed for the deep neck you have, but I think only in a 10PSI cap.

Gibli

The Toyota rad pressure cap opens at 0.9 Bar = 13.0534 Psi.  You probably have a cap set to a very high pressure which resulted in ballooning of the rad tubes. Surely this is the first time I have seen something like this.
My experience with transverse (side ways) tubing Rad has never been so good. When you look at the rad from front you will notice that the cap is lower than the tubes, meaning that the top 7 - 8 rows can never be filled with water, an ideal place for steam to be accumulated, steam is far hotter than the water it'self and the pressure in those tubes must be way higher acting on the water which is blocking the rad cap.
Electric fans that are almost touching the rad core would only pass air in a round band leaving the center, and sides without air, in short a very small area is actually transferring the heat from the core, This is why a suction shroud with suitable distance between the fan and the core ensures even flow through the entire rad surface with better results.

:yesnod: All very true.

Time to get out the sawsall and extend the front so there is room for a proper radiator and fan. Wish I could fit the stock radiator in, but it is too big, I would need to convert the hood to a CJ3B to get the extra needed room. They are UGLY though.

OH, and I am sure the pressure went way above the rated 16 lbs. I had stacked extra gaskets to keep it from burping.  :hammerhead: Supprized it didn't blow a hose when it got up to 225*.  :nerv:

:headscratch: is 4 1/2" too thick for a radiator?  :dunno:

My only option is to double the cores up  to make a thicker radiator.

:dunno: I've seen AG radiators in diesel equipment that thick around here though...

It won't be long and that thing will reach limo status, next thing you know you'll be adding room in the rear for more cargo space.

If this don't work there will be enough room for an Allison aircraft engine under the hood.
