Next question to figure out is I need taller gears, the engine has so much torque that 5.29's and 38's is too low.

Do I change to 4.88's in all three thirds or go from 38's to 42's?

42's might rub a bit and I will have a tough time getting it in the garage. That and I might start breaking more parts.

It will take about a week of working nights to change all the gears and I only have about 4 weeks at best.

No chance you can just rock the 5.29's until after MCR?
I am trying to figure out what are my MUST DO's and what are my would like to get done's as well.

i agree with AJ,  you  might need  taller gears  but do you really NEED  them  befor MCR6

if the mammoth is going to be driven cross country then a change would be needed, would be turning too many rpms for that diesel to be happy. if its being trailered, i'd hold off until after the trip.

One or the other, both won't work. We would be over geared then.

BTW, I knew this would be good for at least one page toward our goal of 100 before MCR6.

I vote for the re-gear, that way you keep you center of gravity lower.  Unless you want Diane walking along the trails alot?  She still talks about the last years MCR and FFC jumping on the rock sliders!

I vote for the re-gear, that way you keep you center of gravity lower.  Unless you want Diane walking along the trails alot?  She still talks about the last years MCR and FFC jumping on the rock sliders! 

Not that it matters much cause it usually leans on her side, but you are right. Not only won't it not fit into the garage and the tires get stuck in the wheel well, it will cause it to be top heavy.

I have decided that the 4.88's will be the better choice even though I would really like to see it on 42's.

I also need to pull the trany and rebuild it. There is a bearing that is locking up and making a whirring sound plus the syncros are done.

Keep in mind that I only have 3 weekends left at best to be 100%.

Don't worry Glen he offsets me.

It's a running joke. The downhill side is ALWAYS on my side. And I swear it is 99.9% of the time. BUt of course I don't notice when it isn't and when it's not he's in control so he doesn't care. But all the REALLY BAD ones were on my side.

RS will tell you when I bailed really pissed cause I was so over it all. He was busting my chops and I just said "I've had enough" and got out.
That was at the crossing with a wall on Mark's side (of course) STRAIGHT DROP on my side, when he kept saying "don't get your wheels on the wall or you're going over"

Call me a wuss, I don't care. I like to video tape and it works better outside the Mammoth.

We won't be there. That was with RS. That was at Big Bear and I did get out and video tape it. I walked behind the Mammoth and got that Mog going over it. I have it all here on my tapes

And an airbag it not going to anything on a roll over but break my nose and my glasses.
