89 V6 Pickup
« on: Sep 24, 2009, 10:53:32 PM »
New thread , Old one has 89 pages of BS so i deleted it.

Bought truck in '07 with 331k miles on it, put a new engine in it myself, had issues forever, finally halfway resolved most of em.

Current plan is:

*SAS done

*40's done

*Finish or scrap flatbedScrapped

Hopefully within the next 3weeks or so ill have the IFS torched off and hang the axle.

pic from today

The frame for the flatbed was already built so i bolted it down but i need to chop about a foot off the back of it and make some real mounts for it. Then figure out how to mount my Hi-Lift and a Shovel

Well i went down to fire up the truck and go get a Dew but when i walked by i smelled gas fairly bad. Since my gas tank is fairly exposed i took a look and...yup. Iv got a big leak. its coming from the metal tube that drops into the tank. I fucked it up when I dropped the tank the last time and then I might have dropped the toolbox onto it while positioning it yesterday. But i need a new drop in part. The one that holds the fuel pump. Anybody got one?

Iv only got one of my 40's right now. The tire shop still hasn't swapped em over for me.

i thought the sending unit was the part that told the gauge how much gas was in it... :headscratch:

Ill take a pic of the lone 40 and what the gas thing looks like.

Nice dude... thats a huge tire.

btw, 88 is different then the 85-87s.

ever notice a lot of things in 88 are not interchangable to the 84-87 trucks....

If 88 is different than yea. It was an 88 V6.

I bolted up the only tire to the front of the truck. couldnt set it down though because it rubber badly on the UCA

Didnt get a picture of the rear when it was on but it cleared by about 1/4" pre-2" bodylift and flatbed.

Its gonna be tall probably. The next week or so ill probly try to get the bed off my trailer and chop the fenders and bob it.i like how low my tool box sits though. itd be cool as hell to lower the bed rail where the box sits so it sits down lower. or cut off the outter wings of my box so it sits in the floor.

Also how high pressure is Toy EFI? I was wondering if i could cut off the FUBAR'd part of the pickup and use a piece of rubber tubing clamped on instead. :dunno:

cuz i have a second bed i got that is setup as a trailer and itll be sort of a "practice bed" so i can go wheel and bob it and trash it then use red bed again.

I think you should run the bobbed bed and by the time the look gets old or it gets trashed. Then buid a good flatbed. just my :twocents: Looks good so far though
Bobbed 84 xtra cab, pickin up parts as I go.

Got all my 40's today finally.

All thats left that i need for my axle swap is some type of ubolt flip and shackles. If anyone made their own what did they do to get the 18mm hole? drillbit or eyed it with torch/plasma?

err well besides shocks and driveline.

I vote bob it because I love the look of bobbed beds but thats just me. I also have more uses for a bed than a flatbed really. Think about which would serve you better.

Either cuts down functionality a lot but im tired of draggin my red bed all over the place. i just really like the idea of a flatbed cuz its less sheetmetla to worry about. plus i can wheel as if i had a shorter wheelbase. or i can turn into obstacles as soon as my cab is clear. make sense? where noramlly the bed would grab and get FUBAR'd

Either cuts down functionality a lot but im tired of draggin my red bed all over the place. i just really like the idea of a flatbed cuz its less sheetmetla to worry about. plus i can wheel as if i had a shorter wheelbase. or i can turn into obstacles as soon as my cab is clear. make sense? where noramlly the bed would grab and get FUBAR'd

or learn to drive better :gap:

its not so much learning to drive better, it makes it easier to get over big rocks when you have to pivot around them. :dunno: ill probly leave it flat for awhile and if it doesnt work out ill go to the bobbd bed.
