no, but ive done a bit of research on some setups. the problem your having is pretty common i think. did you drill out the little brass restrictor on your ps pump to get more flow?? i still need to get some assist it would come in handy

swapped89

Ya I drilled out my restrictor to 13/64". My 3.0 restrictor I thnk s a bit different than the 4 cyl pump restrictor. But I'm not sure. I made my res bigger tonight I'll post a pic
tomorrow when I bolt it all up. I had to work late so I didn't get as much done as I planned tonight. But tomorrow we will see if the larger capacity res stops the squeelin! If not I think I might have to find another restrictor and drill it out smaller.

So last night I thought I would be able to get my truck on the road. But I was wrong. Started up the truck, the pump squeeled for a minute then quieted down. But as soon as. Turned the wheels. It started howlin again :hammerhead: I've about had it with this. Never had anything give me this much trouble before.
So I pulled the restrictor drilled it out a lil more and filled it with JB weld when I get home I'm gonna drill a hole through it smaller than 13/64 . I think it was flowing way too much. It was creating a whirl pool inthe res when the engine was running. I hope this solves my problem or else I might just plug my tapped box and say screw the hydro assist, even though it would be nice.

On top of the pump howling when. Turn a corner. The power steering is completely gone. Just like drivin with no power steering at all.

Anyone have any suggestions?!!?  I have bled the system so many times I can't count. I used the Howe bleeding method I read about in the pirate 4x4 Yota bible.

It sounds to me like your sucking in air from somewhere.

I had a problem kinda like this on my yota... ended up being the little screw on top of the bleeder valve was a little bit loose and it was suckin in air.

i hope you have a 4 cylinder and the bracket for the pump and the special hoses!. that pump is a chevy style and has different fittings than the toyota! and does not work with the stock toyota bracket. I think it might work with the toyota bracket with a lil  :flamer:

Well it's all hooked up. Pump does not squeel any more but it harder to turn now then it was before I put this hydro assist on. The restrictor is drilled out to 10/64". Should I pull the box and replace the Teflon ring that got a slight nick in it or drill the restrictor out more? I need some input guys!

is that the right size?  that it's supposed to be.   replace the ring anyways.

swapped89

It's supposed to be 13/64" but i couldn't get the pump to quit squeelin even after bleeding the living he'll out of it. I'm pullin the box now replace the ring and drill out the restrictor to 11/64" or 12/64" I ain't doin 13/64 yet cause it just didn't work before

Actually I'm feelin kinda lazy so I'm gonna just drill out the restrictor first. Cause I put a new ring in the box when I put it together

if u look in the hydro assist on the cheap thread u can see a pic of the ring

All right. I took everything apart. Replaced the Teflon ring in the steering box with a better one from another box. Now I'm gravity bleeding the system. Tomorrow I will bleed it all again. And I think it's gonna work. The Teflon ring that was in there was kinda twisted up and what not probably totally screwin everything up. Any who if this don't work I'm gonna take the ram apart... Maybe it's got bad seals or somethin!?

Hope it work for ya, The tc style pumps that psc sells and tg has a version but i heard they arent quite as good. They are kinda spendy though. What about a saginaw pump uograde? Everyone hear that i know if that tried using the stock pump wasnt happy with it even with all the mods and eventually just went to a tc style pump.

Well its all done and back together AGAIN! and the darn thang dont work right. If im sittin still in the shop tires on the ground it works great feels good and super easy to turn the tires. If i turn the wheel too fast or at a normal turning speed its like the power steering has gone completely out!! :hammerhead:
I guess i should check out those saginaw pumps. cause I know everything is correct I have pulled it all apart 3 times now! This is givin me such a headache. It wont even turn as easy as a regular stock steering system.
Any one go some more input?

lol Im on the same boat as you, 3.0. I got the bracket from davez offroad for the TG pump and I read up on how to modify the hardline, we'll see how it comes out. Sounds like this project can be a pain in the ass huh? Give it hell im sure you'll get it right

I never seen that Davez offroad bracket before! I think instead of replacing my power steering pump im gonna get davez 3.0 kit. Might as well spend the money now and get it workin right!

HEY AL! can you show me a link to modding the hi pressure hose to fit the TG pump. :gap:

Well I broke down picked up a trail-gear pump ordered the filter/res kit. Gonna have some hydro lines made up once I get everything home. Also ordered Daves offroad 3.0 bracket for the TG pump. And I got a rebuild kit for the surplus center ram just because. So this is no longer hydro assist on the cheap. :smack:
