i'm hearing the call for the 4runner, just gotta get the money together. the bikes that i'm lookin at are:
honda shadow 600
kawasaki ninja 250
ninja 500
ninja 600

this is gonna be my 1st bike, hence the reason for the smaller ones. my dad doesnt like sport bikes at all, i havent liked the cruisers but the honda shadows are startin to grow on me. my dad is uneasy about me getting a bike, i'll love it, and i couldnt afford to go to school without one because of gas prices. i'll be going to UT of the permian basin. school is about 20-25 miles from where i live, but my parents wanted me to live in Midland, not Odessa, so having a bike is the only way i can afford going to school.
payments on the bikes will be right around 60 bucks a month, insurance quotes vary between 15-85 a month.

before i can get the 4runner, i need to sell my current bike, 1971 honda cb100, needs work and i want something that isnt as hard to get parts for.

i understand about being iffy on a bike for your dd, san antonio is what, about 2 million people? and crowded driving (i know, my sister lives there). Midland is about 100,000, and lately the number of bikes has increased significantly. not crowded at all, and people are FINALLY learning how to drive! i'm not seeing anywhere near as many dumbass drivers around, guess their parents got tired of paying for their tickets. the stretch of highway that i'll be riding on is probably the safest in the nation, going the speed limit, 70, i'm flyin by everybody.

ya i think the runner's got about 170k on it, needs a clutch, and maybe a dash depends on what your doin with it, couldnt find any frame rust or body rust, the guy said it had a miss to it but i popped the hood and plugged the #3 injector back in and she was good to go. tranny seemed to shift fine although i didnt drive it, and i couldnt get the transfer case out of four wheel drive, i asked him about that one and he said it was in 4-low when the clutch stopped working, then i asked him to be more specific and he said "well it was driving and then it wasnt" soooo im still scratchin my head on that one.

79coyotefrg

hmm i would have to look at it, doesnt sound like a clutch :screwy:

sounds like he had it on pavement in 4wd  tcase got all binded up  and snapped something,  try backing it up a few yards

What would backing it up do glen?
if he drove it in 4wd  on pavement  the tcase gets under MUCHO stress,  backing it up  if something hasnt broke,  will relieve that stress so that it can easily slip back into 2wd

question then, is what would be wrong with the t-case? i could pull it out and rebuild it, maybe even install a set of marlin 4.7:1 gears in it. if it would still be able to handle 2wd that would work for a while so i could save up some extra money for the gears.

oh swampy, if i manage to get 4500 for my burb that will leave me 1000, since i owe 3500 on it. when this next paycheck comes in i'll have about 6-700 bucks i can spend, then i could tap into my credit card, probably gonna be about 300 bucks for me to drive down there and back, then about 50-100 bucks more for a trailer.

hey super, if its not too much trouble, and if you have the time, do you think you could get some more pics of the runner? from what i can tell the body looks good, i guess that miss that you mentioned was caused by the injector coming off, sounds like the t-case might be screwed up, leaf springs are worn out, probably get glen to build me a set of 5" lift springs. does the rear window still work? any broken glass? interior pics? i'm not too worried about the carpet, figure i'll pull it out and put some kind of bedliner down. i would like as many pictures as possible before i determine whether or not to buy this thing. its lookin like i'll have my cb100 sold by the end of the week, so i'll be getting a new bike soon. figure soon after that i'll put my suburban in the paper, head down to that runner, pick it up (if i'm gonna buy it, top selection at the moment and parents are ok with me selling the burb), bring it back here, hopefully burban will be sold, pay off what i owe, ride the bike while i fix the runner.

well, if it is the t-case that is screwed up, maybe i can get the guy to lower the price? i'm VERY seriouslly looking to buy it, i just want to see as much of it and learn as much about it before i bite the bullet. it would definetly make buying the runner easier if i could sell my old ac compressor from the nissan, a rear dana 44 axle, and now that frond 10 bolt that i just picked up. if i get this thing you might be outta luck on those tires swampy. i've got a guy coming tomorro to look at my old bike, he collects them and i told him i'd sell it for 350, its on ebay for the same price.
i've got 150 right now, paycheck coming in will give me another 350-450, bike sells thats another 350, ac compressor sells thats 100, rear axle i've seen sell for between 100-300, i need to post on pirate4x4 but i'm not a member and dont feel like posting 50 times so i can sell. front 10 bolt will sell for 100-150. so if everything sells for the minimum price i'll have 1150, if just the bike sells i'll have 850, just enough to pay his asking price, but i'm looking at at least 300 bucks for gas, plus 50-100 for a car hauler trailer. if yall know anybody with a jeep looking for a dana 44, or a guy with an 86.5-97 nissan pickup/pathfinder looking for a great running ac compressor, or somebody lookin for a front 10 bolt with 3.73 gears, please let them know.

replacing/rebuilding the t-case doesnt scare me, i'll have time since i'll have the bike to get me to/from school and work. with the interior i'm not too worried, it can be real dirty for all i care, carpet stained and things like that. my main concern is that the seats are still in ok shape, worn out, but still usable. if the dash is cracked no big deal, i could get a dashboard cover for a while, then buy a new dash if i wanted to. i will most likely pull the carpet after a while, then get the interior lined with bedliner and maybe some soudproofing. i just dont want the interior too look like somebody took a chainsaw too it haha.

ive got a few more pics of it that im working on resizing, ill have those up here in a minute. i saw this runner a couple of months ago and was actually looking at buying it but the guy kept giving me the run around about a title, which was important to me. first he said his son had it, then he said that he was going to file for a lost one, then he told me that it would be easier for me to do it. i also noticed that it had been registered in a county about 100 miles away, which could mean almost anything, but considereing what he was trying to feed me about the title i decided to pass on it. i meant to run the vin# through the police to see if it was stolen but by that time i had found an 88 that i would rather have, that i get to go pick up next weekend in Dallas.

red

hmmm, title is important to me as well. if you can get the vin let me know, i'll try to run it through the police out here.

alright, that interior doesnt look to bad at all. those front springs though, DAMN they're gone. glen, if i get this you got some springs to build! needs a good cleaning but otherwise not bad, a few dash cracks but that wont bother me. i'll check out the vin on it, do you happen to remember the name of the guy who's tryin to sell it?

i had it written down but i guess i lost it when i moved. i didnt have any way of contacting him either cause he didnt have a phone, i had to drive 20 minutes out in the boonies to talk to him on 3 seperate occasions. but ill be passing through on my way to Dallas next friday so ill see what i can dig up. if there is anything specifically that you need ill see what i can do.

red

alright just got a carfax report on it. no wrecks, good title, has been sold alot, 13 times so far. there is a mileage discrepancy, went from 150,000 to 62,000 back in 2002, i'm guessing somebody forgot to write down the 1 infront of the 62,000. last transfer of title was in Rusk Texas.

you have the vin in one of the pics, as well as the license plate# which will definatly help me out with the cops. if you could give me his phone# it would be greatly appreciated. you said when you reconnected that injector it ran fine, any problems when you revved it? howd the oil look? coolant?
