hey red  i see yall havin some sand storms out thar
:tantrum: i think thats an understatement. storm blew in around 6pm last night and we had the shop doors open and the windows on my suburban were cracked open about an inch. had to replace my air filter, need to clean my interior, and i was spitting up dust till i went to bed last night.  :yumyum:
hey wheres this park at that ur talkin about. i'll be headed down to san antonio here in the next few weeks, then on to houston and want to do some offroading if possible. cant do anything hard yet, suburban is still stock height/stock tires. been lookin around and am planning on doing a diesel swap probably beginning in about a month. most likely will be an international 6.9 or 7.3L naturally aspirated, almost the same gas mileage as the chevy 6.2/6.5, but more reliable when modified to around 400-500 lb/ft of torque. truck wont be a power monster, but with that engine and hopefully either an nv4500 or sm465 manual tranny, mated to a land cruizer crawlbox (from marlin crawler of course) and a land cruizer t-case should make for a great crawl ratio so that i can just idle through those tough spots, making it alot less likely that i'll get body damage.

a 400 hp 7.3 diesel into a landcruiser tcase :aaa:

might better look for a borgwarner from a 1ton or a atlas

why on earth  do you still have that gas hog??

not 400 hp, ft/lbs of torque, thats what diesels are all about. will have MAYBE 300hp.
its actually not too bad on gas, gettin 14-16 city, 17-18 highway. gonna stay with this truck most likely. dont worry, i can get it to fit in more places than you think, expecially when i do an sas and get rear steering, will help alot.
the thing about the t-case, people drop 350's in their trucks that are crankin out 300-400hp with the stock toyota drivetrain and are having minimal problems with it living up to it. i'll be crankin out less power than that, and with how marlin builds his stuff i'm positive that it will live up to it.

probably wont even end up at 400 ft/lbs of torque, most likely will have less than that. came stock with around 170 hp and 250ish ft/lbs of torque.

seems like a lot of talk
????? not talk its plans. i'm doin this on a college students budget, so it will take alot of time. diesel swap will most likely be 1st, might do the manual tranny setup then or it might wait, depends on cash flow and ease of finding the parts. i've already found 7 6.9 or 7.3L diesel engines that have sold on ebay for under 300 bucks that were in running shape, just located way too far away for me to go pick up and shipping would have been a nightmare.

i know the usual statements about suburbans and offroading, "there to big to go anywhere, there too long, too wide, blah blah blah". but if you drive one often enough you know its limits, just like you do with any other vehicle. i used to wheel an 89 suburban and everywhere i went people told me that there was no way a suburban could go there, not a chance in h*** that it would fit, and i proved them wrong far more often then i proved them right. only time i screwed up was in mud, but different tires would have made a difference. i know a mini truck or a jeep would be a better platform for ease of fitting in tight places, but i can only have 1 vehicle besides my motorcycle, and i couldnt manage to talk my parents into any of the other vehicles that i was looking at at the time (2 door blazer, 4 runner, 56 land cruizer, or 75 land cruizer.)
