i know, so many choices but now the bike is sitting out in the parking lot. payments of 145 a month, 25 a month for insurance, and a 5 year warranty. so the bike will be my daily vehicle, unless i'm not alert than i'll take the suburban. so by next summer hopefully i'll be able to modify the suburban better, maybe do the sas.

ya red i think your right, the 6.2 is what they put in H1's and such, not a bad motor.

but on the other hand the IFS is FINALLY torched off and im ready for the dreaded 8 hours of grinding. and as soon as i get some parts in on teh solid axle the thing will be done.... for now.

i would post up some pics but my camera is in mexico with teh girlfriend, i opted to to stay and do the SAS before school started and pass on the vacation.

oh super your right, the 6.2 was used by the military until about a year or 2 ago. not a very powerful engine, but easy to maintain and great on fuel.

  yea i hear ya

i started :driving: at 12 cause dad had a heart attack,  i had a "hardship" license,  i could drive anywhere as long as Dad, Grandma, or Mom was with me,  at 14  i had a "hardship farmer" licesne  and could drive the 5 ton flatbed we had,  BIG old 61 GMC 9500 :psss:  (like the c/k 2500-3500) had that old  478 cubic inch V6 industrial engine {old GMC pickups 1956-65ish had a 305 V6 }  5 speed tranny and 2 speed rear ends,  i drove that truck more than i drove the pickup cause mom didnt have a clue as to how to drive it,  i miss that old truck   someday i'll find one and restore it

when i got my license my dad and i were looking for a truck for me, he wanted me to have something big and safe, and took a very serious look at an old 2 1/2 ton military 6x6 with the seats in the bed, no cover. multifuel (diesel and propane), manual tranny, and 6 wheel drive, woulda been alot of fun but he found that 89 suburban and thats what i ended up with instead.

the last place i worked  was a logging company and they  had  old 6x6 5 tons  to drag the loader and delimber around,  5 speed tranny  is a pain with a 2100 rpm cummins  :ack:  i had to wind it all the way up then drop it in and lug it back up,  what a pain

i was used to the 15 speed in the Peterbilt

It has taken a god awful amont of time, but it is gettin' closer to the run at gilmer. YO! I NEED SOME SHORTER SPRINGS! in tx - Ryan

hey guys, ive got a little delima, ie got most of the SAS done and im about to lift the rear but i forgot about the frame damage that i had when somebody rear ended me. i had to cut off the frame from the shackle hanger backe and weld in some c-channel steel mount up my bumper. and i know i have to move my mounts to hang any kind of decent lift spring. so what suggestions do yall have. i can get up some update pics of the front and some pics of the rear frame a little later.

dude your changing your mind on a veichel more that anything man

my dad has alot of influence on what vehicle i get, and he's finally thinking straight (bout time!!). he looked at my list of things i want to do to whatever truck i have, that body damage is expected, and interior to be messed up (stains or put down bedliner) and checked out the price list of everything i would do to the suburban and has come to realize, the burb is not for me. sooooooo........... he thinks that the vehicles i was looking at before, the 85 runner, a m1008 cucv, and a 67 m715 are what i should build up slowely, and eventually make a reliable dd so i can sell the burb or give it to my parents.

so what do yall think, that my dad has finally come to his sense about what i use a truck for? and how much do yall think i could get that 85 runner for? think i could get him down to 5-600? or cheaper maybe?

thats the plan, FINALLY!!!!!!! i'm just hoping that its still for sale. i dont need it running yet, but i've gotta save some money so i can get it. once i do get it, i'll need you to make some springs (not sure yet if going stock height initially or gonna go ahead and go up 4") then by the sounds of it i'll need a t-case, and maybe a clutch (wont know till i get it though)

well just got back from san antonio (sorry i didnt tell ya swampy and speedy, family get together) and got 17 mpg in my suburban going there, unknown on the way back yet but probably the same. the weird thing is, my engine NEVER got above 140 degree's, even with both front/rear ac on full blast. with the ac off it ran around 120-130 F. engine warms up to that temp quick, but never goes any higher, it should be around 180-200, any ideas whats goin on? before the air intake i bought it ran around 150-160. if it was a carbed motor i wouldnt care, but since its tbi the computer is dumping more fuel into it than is needed, so worse gas mileage. any ideas how i can fix this? maybe put a 190 F thermostat in or something?

my dad doesnt want me to sell the burb, but still thinks i should get the runner as a 3rd vehicle  :headscratch: not quite sure y i would need to keep the burb, it would just be extra money for insurance and another car payment, if i pay cash for the runner, get it to be reliable again and a dd/offroader by next summer (thats the plan right now), sell the burb for about 5,000. that eliminates the truck payment and the suburbans insurance, would also make enough money back for the purchase of the runner. 4 runner would be paid for with liability only insurance, bike is liability only right now, and i'll be paying for it for a couple more years. suburban is on total insurance right now, somewhere around 250 a month and its payments are 143.28 a month with 3500 still to pay.
