Looking good. Do you have that rear axle moved forward a little or is it just the picture?

crazykooter

I think the picture makes it look like its farther forward then it is.  Tho the spring hangers are welded 7" forward of the stock ones.   Marlin springs should be 6"s forward but these hangers were already there and 1" wasnt worth me cutting them off.
I need to get to a local paint shop so I can get some primer and a half gallon of the stock paint.  I am gonna just get this stuff called omni one step which is fine.  Its easy spray since it has the base and clear in one.   Should cost me bout 75 to 100 bucks for all I need.

The omni single stage works pretty good, I did my tailgate with it. Are you just gonna be using an H.V.L.P gun?

crazykooter

Ya sure bring your truck on by on paint day.  You do the prep work and ill spray it.  I dont mind painting but the prep work burns me out !!

Ya I use a hvlp gun.  Its great gun and I have been very good bout cleaning it and keeping it that way.
I do need to setup a better water separator.  I have the parts just havent spent to the time to do it.
I need a big roll of clear plastic for a make shift paint booth.  The Omni single stage paint imo is the best paint for the price.  I have to spray a Honda here in a week and it has to have the water paint crap which is pretty much PPG.   Plus ppg is 4-5 times more.

If you have a local home depot they have huge rolls of plastic for cheap. Prep work sucks for sure but so does keeping your gun clean.

Here is a few updated pics.  Tomorrow I should be able to drive it around local but until I have a rear drive shaft.

Bout 20 of them attacked me while I was welding.  I sprayed their ass 3-4 times with brake cleaner yet they wouldnt give up.
I managed to weld one of them in the process.  Its funny I didnt even notice the wasp in the pic until I uploaded it.

crazykooter

The truck is pretty much ready for a road test.   I still need to make a crossmember and a few other little things.   Tho I am having electrical problems which I think are due to a bad light switch on the column.
The bad for the day is my windshield is cracked.  I was installing it and had it 95% seated.  Not sure why it cracked but at least its on the passenger side.
Here is a few pics of the drive shaft I shortened today.  Took me bout an hr to get it done.

Here is the cracked windshield

Its older interior. I wish the dash wasnt cracked but it looks a lot cleaner then my 82 did.
The carpet was nasty as hell.  Stains, oil spills ect.   When I had it out I just used a pressure washer to clean it.  Made it look damn near new.

Thanks guys  I should be starting the body work soon.
I do need to fab a drop front hanger down the road and make some mounting brackets for my front bumper.
I am off to finish making the mounting plates for my x member and see if I can figure out the electrical issue im having.  I must have forgot a relay or something.

stephen-O

ya mine has power steering fluid on the passenger side and clutch oil on the driverside, its nasty

Here is a few more update pics.  Nothing special just kept me busy again today.  Mainly I just worked on the electrical issue I was having which turned out to be a bad switch cluster.  While I have it apart I threw on this grant steering wheel to see if I liked it or not.  We will see once I spend some time driving with it.
I also mounted e brake brackets on rear axle but I still need to find a way to extent the cable.  Ill do that tomorrow.

One of the pics is a side shot of my truck.  My buddy was talking bout how high my truck is sitting in the rear.  I measured off the frame and its a 1/2" higher in the rear.  Looks like its more.  I think I am gonna try and get this truck to sit 2"s lower.  I dont need all this space in the wells.  Which reminds me I need to make some bump stops in the front.

I am making a sale thread here in a few and will be selling off my roll cage and a bunch of other things.  I am also thinking bout selling off the 79 wiring harness.

Looking great dude.... Better exo this one so you dont have to swap the cab again...  :beerchug:

crazykooter

I am really not sure if I want a full exo.  Full exos on daily drivers just dont look right to me, but if I plan to wheel it then its better if I have one.
If I can get a tow rig then I will build a pure trail rig and leave this one alone.  For now tho I am going to do a partial exo which is going to tie the front and rear bumpers into the sliders.  Its not going to have a bar high on the hood line or top of bed rail.  Later down the road I can always add to it.  I am looking at 200 bucks in steel just to make the front and rear tube bumpers and sliders.
If I get the roll bar sold then it should cover the tube.  We have a bender with a 1 1/2" die and a tube notcher which has never been used.
Maybe ill draw up a pic showing what I plan to do.

Tomorrow I just need to fix a heater hose thats leaking and mount my cross member.  Then im gonna take her out to see if the drive line I made is good.

HOW MUCH YOU WANT FOR THE WIRE HARNESS OFF THE 79?

HOW MUCH YOU WANT FOR THE WIRE HARNESS OFF THE 79?

Hey rex sorry I didnt get back sooner.  I am not 100% sure I want to sell the harness.  I guess I would if the price is right.   The used L52 I got seems to have lost 5th gear syncros.  Its getting worse and I need this truck to stay running.  Until my Marlin one gets fixed I am gonna need another l50 or l52.

On topic I drove the truck bout 150 miles yesterday and besides the trans issue everything worked well.  Much better then my 82.  All seems to be soo much tighter and secure.
Less rattles ect.   I am going to be dropping my lift 2"s.  Its just too high.  Even if I drop it 2"s I would still be able to fit 37s.
The front will be easy to drop but the rear is tricky for me.  I really dont want to remove a leaf from the pack and not sure how much lower it would sit.  I would prefer to get a set of 3" marlin MCREAR3 springs instead.  Guess ill just have test it out.   Also dropping it down 2"s would really help my rear pinion angle.  Its really steep right now since this I set up the rear perches for my longbed angles.
Ill get some pics up of the pinion angles and what it looks like once I lower the rear.  Plus I am going to cut off the rear perches and set the pinion angle up again.  I still have to deal with the angle at the cases.  If I had the money I would get a cv rear.  I need a good front and rear drive line to do this.  My only spare drive line is bent from mcr09.

wow.  lookin good.  makin good progress.  can't wait to see it all painted.  interior looks really good.  makes me want to tear mine apart and redo a bunch of things.

This was my spare. I have a L43 which is a 4 speed and side shift.  Didnt care for it at all.
Going to yank the trans out and check everything.  Maybe its a bad clutch component.  Or It might have to do with the angle of the drive line.  I have been working on a buddies truck this morning so I wont know anything bout trans till later.

Just get some 63" Chevies for the rear, that will lower it a decent amount...
