I liked old blue, (wait a second shouldn't it have been old blue with white stripe :gap:)

but I think i'm with early on this one, the red/orange should look good

by the way what are you gonna call this one? my votes are for "even older red/orange"

Early

are you going to throw stripes on as well? maybe painted stripes? that'd be dubbie

i liked the blue more :P

red is too overdone in my opinion, but it's not my truck, so all that matters is that you like it :)

glad to see you are getting so much done on it

I agree red is overdone but not a lot of red 1st gens, and this one won't be red it will be red/orange to keep it original.

RED is overated that's why my truck is maroon

All you need is a new door and fender! Screw the cab. I say keep on wheeling it.

I don't think he cares about the dent on the cab, he said the whole cab shifted about an inch and the door would never properly close again.

I would of kept wheeling it but thats just me, Slolyfe didn't you roll your truck with no cage and your windshield popped out but didn't break?

crazykooter

Guys this is my daily driver.  If I only drove it to the trail and back I wouldnt have cared.   Ive done a bunch of work on it today and I dead tired.  I will post up a few pics later.

I rolled my truck 2x while it was my daily driver and only vehicle. Folded the roof into the passenger seat. The dorrs open and shut fine after a little hammer work. But thats just me. Props to josh if he has the time and energy to fix it. I just knew mine was going to be off road only.

I made a lot of progress yesterday.  I Got the trans and tcases install.  Still have to cut holes for the shifters.  I removed the old harness from the 79 and 82 then install the 82 harness in the 79.  Its pretty much all hooked up besides a few things in the engine compartment.  I am gonna install the rest of the dash today as well as weld on the rear shackle hangers.
I measured for the rear drive line and it looks like I need about a 45" drive line which I dont have.  So I am gonna cut one of my older ones and put a cv on it.  Should help out balancing some.  A buddy came over and help me get the old windshield out so it just needs to be cleaned and put in the 79.  Besides the interior I am getting MUCH closer.

Heres a funny thing I found a few days ago.  I thought for sure I lost a u joint in my front drive line.  Well when I was removing it I noticed how it was bound up which was causing the clacking noise.   Once I got it out I found a bolt had fallen into the cv and was stuff there.  Wild     It didnt hurt the cv at all so I am good to go.

Anyhow here is the pics yall have been harassing me for.  Ive posted a few extras.  And now its time to go to work. :wink2:

Check this out.  See the bolt holes where the dash mounts to the body ?  They are missing. Ive never had the dash apart so this was a suprise.  Makes sense why the damn truck was so noisy on the freeway.

Here is where I am at now on the dash.

Got a little done today.  Had to help a friend with his truck.   I have a list made and so far I only have 25 things left to do before shes ready for the road.  I have to take off tomorrow so I wont get much done at all.
The big question thats bugging me is weather to install the york air compressor or keep the a/c.  Gonna sleep on it for a few nights then decide.
Heres a few pics of where the trucks at now.

Had to paint my blue one black since the one that was in there was messed up. Turned out ok.

91 ex-cab

My votes for the york compressor :twocents:, but not having a/c doesn't bother me at all.

jimbo74

keep the a/c.... figure out some way to mount the york later ;)

Id take the a/c over a york any day thats coming from a 1st gen owner that lives right outta Sacramento. So if it barely gets to the 90s do the york, but if it ever hits triple digits get the a/c. my  :twocents:
I blame the automatic transmission for the wussification of America
If Its got tits tires or electronics, your gonna have problems
I drive a jeep cuz toyota doesn't make strollers

Yota Rolla

go with the ac. . you could always go with a viair pump later. . those things work great

I am missing one part for my ac set up.  Its the belt tensioner.  I was sure I had it but cant seem to find it atm.  If anyone has a pic of a 1st gen setup that would help a ton.

This may sound stupid  :hammerhead: but, can you post a pic of the area that your needing? My system is complete. I just wanna make sure you get the pic that you need.

I need a pic of the compressor and belt set up.  Also could use a pic of how the drier and hoses are routed.

jimbo74

josh, have you scoped out the diagrams in the fsm? they are pretty detailed drawings

Hey thx hilux.  Those help out a ton.  The only thing im missing is the idler pulley.  I tried a pulley that used for the ps but its too big.  I have all the brackets and what not for it just not the pulley.  I kind of need to see how big the pulley itself is.  Sucks I cant find mine.  I even have the r12 to fill it.  Actually I need the switch but I am sure I can get one of them cheap.  Maybe ill just have to run to picknpull here in stockton.  I know a 1st gen 2wd there has a complete ac setup in it.

i have one off a 22re if it works for you its yours for free

I am not sure if the 22re version is the same.
Also since I took my wiring harness out of the 82 which didnt have ac I need to make it work.  Im sure it wont be hard.
I am more concerned about getting the truck moving then fixing the ac atm.
I need to get to concord to get to the docs and the truck I was gonna use has a blown head gasket now.  Talk bout bad luck.

If you know where linden is in Stockton there's a lot of first gens complete
pm me I'll let u no, so u don't have to waste your time

Here is a few pics of my progress.  Was a long day but I am very close to being ready to drive her on the street.  Really I just need to fill the tcase and trans, remove all the body mounts from my 82 and put them on my 79 since it had a 3" body lift on it. blah  Last thing would be to make my rear drive line.  This 79 being a short bed has a very short rear drive shaft.  44"s and my 82 long bed rear drive shaft was I think 8"s longer.
Ahh almost forgot I need to put the carpet in and the seats.  No biggie there.

Here is how my truck is sitting.  I decided to go back to stock shackles in the rear to level the truck out.

This is the shackle angle without anything in the bed.  Once I get the roll bar and spare in it will drop a little more.

Pretty much complete interior minus the radio, carpet and seats not being installed.
