Theres a guy near me who has a factory toyota tailgate for an 82-83 which is new in box.  Its the oem one thats been sitting around for near 20 yrs.  I just dont have 200 to buy it.

I ended up gearing and selling my e locker I had and a few days later I was at pick n pull and was shocked to find a 2001 4 runner with the whole rear intact.  So I now have a full 3 locker rear.  I am only using the 3rd but I shaved the housing any way. I just picked up my yukon 529 gears for the e locker and going to install them today. Then I need to pull my front axle AGAIN to mod the housing to except the e locker.  Ive done it 3 times now so its not so hard.  esp since a buddy of mine made a template out of a e locker gasket which is steel so its a matter of laying it the studs and spray painting the template which marks where the new studs go and how much notching I need to do.
I also have dual cases coming this weekend which I ended up getting in trade for labor I did.  I am fabbing up a triple shifter so I can keep my tacoma 60/40 bench seat.  I will post some pics when I can get the images off my stupid phone. LOL.  There is a ton of things ive done in the last few months.  I just need to get it all sorted.

That valve cover looks great! I would get rid of that whole bracket with all the unnecessary emissions stuff and clean it up even more!

Something like this... my buddies engine...

crazykooter

That engine is for a 90 2wd pickup.  Mine has the 1st gen cover which is red atm.  Ur looks clean.

crazykooter

Working on getting my 529 gears set up.  Gonna start pulling my front end apart tomorrow if I start feeling better. Should have it done in a day.  Still have a ton of work to do on this truck.  I am pulling my sliders off as well.  Gonna make some custom ones that will better suit my truck.

Check out the drive flange that came on this 3rd.  Looks like chromoly.  Hard to tell from pics but its very shinny.

Just posted a full walkthru on how to do a E locker swap.  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=69852.0
I will say if your going to put an E locker in the rear you should use a E locker rear and axles.  The E locker axles are 6mm longer so if you use a ifs rear and a E locker 3rd your shafts will be short.  A bunch of people have broke their E lockers due to this small length.  I have a spare E locker rear housing which is completely shaved but im not sure if I am gonna keep it for when I do my rear E locker.

thats a very nice write up. so let me get this straight, the taco axles will fit into a ifs rear housing?  i looked at the measurements of the toco and ifs its almost 3" wider(60.75" vs 58") sorry for hijacking your thread somewhat.

does that 04 taco rear end already have the e-locker? if it doesn't you can't put the e-locker in it, as the non e-locker taco rears were the 8.4 diffs

yes the rear end does have a elocker in it. its an 04 trd with e locker rear end. its up for 800 for it all. think thats a fair price?

crazykooter

I wouldnt pay 800 for a rear end but thats me.  600 is about right.  I got my complete rear end for 150.00 at picknpull so that gives ya an idea.

crazykooter

Well since my last post ive made a few upgrades.  Mainly got everything sorted.  I ended up doing a SAS job on a 89 runner which took a bunch of my time.  I think it turned out well.  Heres some pics.  Let me know what ya think. I had better pics but I gave the guy I did it for my scandisc card so he could have some pics.
I REALLY need to work on my welds.  They look like crap.

crazykooter

Got my dual cases all sorted but I ended up getting a set of Marlin 4.7 gears so I am gonna take one of our extra top shifts and get them installed.  Then swap rear cases.
I finally got around to getting my IFS hubs and FJ80 rotors w/ v6 calipers installed.  Plus I put my 1.5" wheel spacers back on rear axle.
In 2-3 weeks gonna head up to high lakes and do some minor wheelin and fishing.  I have a buddy who has a cabin there so it should be nice.
I also got my Marlin E locker guard installed.  Looks pretty sweet.
Almost forgot I traded some parts for a pair of 5150 Bilsteins.  Rides MUCH better on the road.

If anyone in the Bay area has some shackles for sale let me know.  I need new shackles for the front.

jimbo74

hmmmmm....... glad to see progress on your yota....

well, i can't see it..... these govt computers :P

i got the board though ;)

haha, with all the $ i have spent on my little rc car, i could have a real truck by now.... but then again, i can't take a real truck with me when i deploy

Blah I am soo ready to go wheelin but I need my rear drive line shortened 1st which of coarse I dont have the funds for.  Guess the con is really nice right now.  I am bout to say screw it and see if this rear drive line will work.  Then again really need another rig to head up with in case.   :reg:

Thought I would do a little update:

Not much but getting there.
I got a hold of an older trans cooler and installed it today for the power steering.  Boiling my ps fluid just sucks so I am sure this will make a world of diff. The thing looks hammered but it doesnt leak and flows fine so why not.

I finally installed my rear breather tube and ran it along the shock hoop.  Should be plenty high but I guess we will see.

I got tired of having my Hi lift sitting in my bed so decided to mount it to my roll bar.  Just took a few bolts and cut them down then welded them to the bar. Had a few large wing nuts.  So far its still there and doesnt rattle.

Tomorrow I am gonna cut the tubing I got for sliders and get it welded up.  Not gonna run a full slider for now.  Just a lower tube to protect the rockers. Should be fine since I am going to be using 2" DOM tubing.
