I have my truck setup with inboarded rear springs due to properly mounted shocks I don't notice a difference in handling just suspension travel. Another guy that I have helped says the same about his truck that is setup very similar.

Don't have any good pics to show shock placement but the pic you showed of your plan on how you were planning on mounting them is almost exactly like mine. The springs are All Pro 5''

http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=45027.90 check this build, this is how i was thinking of doing rear shocks and my cab exo

Your going to need some really long shocks  :disturbed:

SloCrawler

You thinks 14" would be long enough this way? I believe he useing 12" above. Might not work on my truck like you where saying my springs are awfully close to my frame the way I set them up.

BigBs84

Notch the inside of the frame and replate it to fit the shocks I wasted a brand new bilstein first time out. 12" shocks have done me great my frame hieght is 23 1/2 and with it that low 12's are perfect. Lookin good man keep up the good work. Oh and move that front hanger, and as far as triple drilled perches go just drill you a hole 1 1/2" back save time and money, then cap the perches for strength.

jackson58

x2 on knotching the frame for needed clearance  but as for 12's for my setup they would be like limiting straps. I use every bit 14'' shocks thats my  :twocents:

You have any pics of the creeper joints REALLY flexed out? I want to see how much they bind and rotate. Please 8)

SloCrawler

no just the ones from my trailer on page three, my wheel was about 2 feet up

SloCrawler

got a grant steering wheel, made my doors removable with pins finally, cut 3" off my rear ubolts and reran my ebrake line, oh yeah and ordered my gear install kits truss and gussets and armor for my front axle.

SloCrawler

Tell me if I'm going at this wrong, but the plan is to cut and weld my axles with oil in them? Then after im going to drain and rebuild them all new bearings gears and ring and pinion.  Anything I need to be extra careful about?  Also my rear shackles are not as aggressive as I wanted, there 7" eye to eye, shorting them I would think  help that?

Gear Jammin-Dog Chasin-Yota Man

It could be done that way.

I would have a fire extinguisher handy when you cut them open with oil every where.

And if you weld them, be sure to have all that oil and grease no place near them welds or you will not get a good weld (acetone and grind the grease oil off).

It may seem like more work at first, but if you clean the axles up prior to cutting and welding, you will get a better result in the long run.  Just my  :twocents:

What do you mean by "aggressive"?
Shackle angle will be less steep if you shorten them, opposit if you lengthen them.  IMO Ideal shackle angle for ride and articulation is around 35-45 degrees depending on your preference

right now ther like 35 degrees and i would like it closer to 45-55 degrees, shorting my shackle i may be able to accomplish this

wasnt planning on cuting open just takeing off all stock brackets, oil helps not heating up and warping, my buddy told me to pull breathers or oil will come seals. should i use the plasma or blades?

Oh, in that case, yeah, I think the plasma would be a good choice for what you are doing.

As for your shackle angle, yes, shorter shackles will give you more angle in your situation, I would just take a tape measure and hold it up to your existing shackle on the truck (with the truck sitting at normal ride height) and move the tape measure till you have a 45 degree angle and that should give you your new measurement eye to eye for your shackles.  Hope that makes sense

I like a 40-45 degree shackle angle, I think it rides a little better too.
To each his own.  Good luck and nice build

22" right now, I imagine it will be the same when I add a 2 leafs to the front pack and shortin my rear shackles. Im going to drill extra holes in my shackles so I can play and tune the angles.
