glad to see you got it back, im in the wheeling club with the guy who owned it haha..

So got a recently rebuilt 22r with a 20r head and stock intake manifold with a 22r carb and no name headers. Only have 1 issue as is and that's the mechanical fuel pump and thermostat housing hit. I hear the sulotion is a22r thermostat housing. This motor has not been started so want to confirm a few things. Do I need or should I wait for adjustable time gear? Timing needs to be between 4°-8°? Any info appreciated.

SloCrawler

Every one so far that I have talked to Say's I need an electric fuel pump. Bummer. Really want to keep electrical to a minimum.

SloCrawler

think im going to use an inline fuel pump for the time being, after i get this street legal might change it up, waiting to hear back from CARB on if im allowed to run propane on a smog excempt vehicle on the street, this should work, and block off mechanical fuel pump?    http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MRG0/12S/N0515.oap?ck=Search_fuel+pump_N0515_5167424_-1&keyword=fuel+pump&pt=N0515&ppt=C0025

If you plan on running higher RPMs then I'd opt for the electronic fuel pump. Do you hve pics of the clearance between the pump and housing? I have multiple housings if you'd like to check them out. I am building my own intake manifold and thermostat housing anyway so I have lots of spares!

Tryed posting pics, my smart phone not so smart. got it a little wet jumping Seadoos at the beach

Found the thermostat housing causing me all the grief. Its off a 1979 22r. It's longer and is another 20° to the right. Just ordered gaskits. Going to have a friend double check timing and valves and put my LC cam in.

SloCrawler

Got motor all put together. Waiting on LC adjustable can gear. Reconecting wires and lines. Can't remember exactly where my power steering pump bolts to block? Driverside above the alternator correct?

SloCrawler

I cannot put my stock power steering pump in the stock location. The passenger side has a lot more room available. My 20r head is missing the extra mounting location. What other options do I have to move pump to other side of the engine?

My buddy has an '80 Celica as a derby car.  It had the 20r without the power steering bosses in the head but the power steering is mounted lower on the block.  I would look around for an early Celica with power steering and try to get the pump and brackets off of it or at least mimic that setup.

Ended up finding a guy called Yunit on Pirate 4x4 who fabs passenger side bracket to mount the PS pump. Should be week and he will get me one made up.

SloCrawler

Got my adjustable cam vgear from LC. They failed to mention I need a different eccentric and fuel pump spacer so waiting on more parts.

Guess the sector shaft I've been fighting does not pull apart from steering box, had to remove levers and steering wheel, now I can either pull cab away from steering box or pull box from underneath.  What a pain in the ass removing 48 year old bolts. need some extra muscle this week to help lift cab

SloCrawler

Got intake off and putting on adapter plates to get the 32/36 Weber on.  Also got a few other block off plates on.  Can I block off all of these sensors and hoses?
