everyone does it different, but the way I have done mine and other buddies is you turn the tie rod ends to where they are turned opposite directions so they can't slop back and forth when the ram pushes or pulls on them.  everyone does theirs different, so i'm sure you'll get more feedback.  but thats my  :twocents:.

looks good.  only 2 weeks to go :driving:

i got the tie rod ends like that now so it dosnt want to move up or down, now i tack weld the nuts on the end of the tie rod? between the threads and on the top side of nut to prevent them from breaking free?

so i put royal purple power steering fluid in this assist, i guess thats a no no. I wait tell after roundup to tranny fluid in my assist

superyota

yea, I made the mistake and put power steering fluid in mine too when I did it.  It's been in there for almost 2 years now.  I really should change it out to atf.  I might do it before the roundup.  the power steering fluid I guess isn't the best thing for the seals.  I guess that explains my steering box leak.

Leave the power steering fluid. It's no use changing it now. I'm running PS fluid and I have noticed no change. Like Superyota said, he ran it for years with no issues.

jackson58

You can't go wrong if you use Amsoil synthetic hyrdrolic tractor fluid for the hyd. assist. Oop's recommended it so I tried it and glad I made the switch.
Dirt is for wheelin not for wearin you filthy hippie!

jrock

I've also heard people use hydraulic fluid, like whats used in tractors. Much cheaper :)

I think it comes down to what characteristics each of the fluids has and how that fits the need. I like PS fluid because its hydraulic fluid for vehicle steering systems :P

superyota

atf is what toyota uses for steering fluid.  i'm not sure how any other fluids effect the seals in the pump and steering box.

Made a new center dash peice to hold CD player and CB, and rock lite switches when i get around to it

SloCrawler

Yesterday i went out to garcia ridge and found my 2 weak links, my heavy foot and a destructive front u-joint, Im going to replace the u-joint and add some shims to help my driveshaft angle

jrock

SloCrawler

For sure, now I'm just trying to decide if i should go to a v6 joint and replace my diff flange or keep it how it is. i also need additional bump stops because my assist ram is hitting the oil pan barally..

SloCrawler

drive shaft done with IFS yoke and front diff now has ifs flange

SloCrawler

is this because my truck went from a 4speed to 5 speed?

SloCrawler

and should i worry about this hitting

Did it already clearance itself?
the shaft has paint missing but no huge indentations or scrapes so I'm jot sure. The joint itself rest about 3/8" above crossmember. Why would my tranny be back more than stock crossmember?

toyotathomas

Different transmissions will be longer.

Been a while since I updated, MCR was a blast, i was to busy and never took any pics  :smack: . tried digging some up but none of my rig. I twisted my rear driveline and broke a center spring pin, other than that the truck worked great. The only thing needing attention would be my drag link, it has to much play and hitting spring pearch  :hammerhead: . Other than that getting ready for Calico om the 21st.

SWEET!  Glad to hear you had a good time at the roundup.  I look forward to it every year.  Claico's only a week and half away.  Should be a blast.  I'll wait for you in Bakersfield Friday til you get there.  You actually might get there before I do.

Seems like your Toyota towed better than one of the deisel trucks with us. Who was the guy in the white 4 runner? I think his freind has a bunch of action pics

superyota

travis is the guy with the shite 4runner.  Odie is the one that took all the pics.  jon remembered the name of his company and we were able to get a hold of him.  he is mailing a burned cd of the pictures over.  he lives in hawaii.  i'm hoping he sends some of the videos too.
