you need to get your mounts in first.  measure the distance between the mount on the axle and the mount on the frame at ride height, then compressed and extended.  depending on how you mount your shocks, l l,  or / \, will really make a difference on how much your shock travels.

got to figure my uptravel then i can figure the mounts out i imagin. i was planning on them being at a little angle but pretty much straight up and down

jrock

How would you mounted the shocks on the outside of the spring?

Straight up and down is great but don't worry about angling them a bit.

SloCrawler

my springs are inboarded 4", i will mount them on the stock pearches, it should help with control

jrock

The frame mounts are not in the best location for flex.

SloCrawler

im going to roll some dom and put wheel wells in my flatbed, then run dom to the top of both of those wells and connect my shocks there, maybe ill try and sketch my idea to show you guys

SloCrawler

this is where i plan on mounting the rear shock, the bottom connects on the outside of the spring and the top will be just inside the frame. see the square tube on the top left I'm going to cut that out and see how high the wheels tuck in and ill know hoe high my wheel wells need to go plus a few inches because i want to later upgrade to 37" tires, ill do that and both sides and connect a bar straight across for my shocks. when I'm figuring all this out i should be able to figure my up travel from there.

jrock

Personally I wouldn't do it that way. I would be afraid of it hitting the frame. I would mount it to the u-bolt plate.

SloCrawler

that was my original plan, had a guy contact me here at marlin and recommend this to help gain control of his beast, he has a very similar setup

Bro u have a nice rig I'm a newb wich way gives u more down travel if u mount your shocks straight up and down or at an angle but wich way would give you both good up travel and down travel

superyota

angled with give you more travel (/ \), but less stability.

SloCrawler

Ordered 5  monster mod wheels with 2.5 backspace, get this  :pokinit:  off jackstands and on some rubber. They said a little less than a month ill have them.  Now I need my gear install kits, you guys think through MC or inchwarm?  My buddy gets a nice discount at inchwarm. Don't want to half ass though

Peterbuilt84

The install kit should come from the gear company, mine were from yukon. I think MC sells yukon too. If you can get a discount go for it.

jrock

It's not as much the install kit, it's the install that matters. But really, check what bearings they use. Timken are good.

Sounds about right, gears are $$$. Rig looks like it's coming along good, are you still running stock birfs?

jrock

Do you drive this around on the street a lot? If yes, how much of a difference did you notice with the inboarded rears? With the jonny joints?

Marlin lists the setup kits for $130 plus $30 for the solid spacer.

I have my truck setup with inboarded rear springs due to properly mounted shocks I don't notice a difference in handling just suspension travel. Another guy that I have helped says the same about his truck that is setup very similar.
Dirt is for wheelin not for wearin you filthy hippie!

SloCrawler

Got any pics of your shock setup
