pumkin toy

Well we are having a pretty bad blizzard here in Rapid City today. I just got home about an hour ago. I literally could not see past the front bumper on my car, and the roads were already covered in frozen rain from this morning so i had to leave my car in someone's driveway and hop in with a guy in a new Silverado! He was nice enough to give me a ride home, and i thank God that we have so many generally nice and helpful people here in SD or i would still be sitting in my car burried in snow! So onto the REALLY good news! I now have a couple days off work and my Toy is in the garage ready to have the rear frame cut off and preparred for new framerails! I also bought some jack stands this morning before the storm so i can get the pumkin all jacked up and set in place to remove the old frame. I will keep you guys updated with some pics.

here are a couple pics from inside my house. Keep in mind this storm just hit like two hours ago and we are expecting 12-18 inches of snow! Oh yeah and it got up to a beautiful sunny 80 degrees yesterday. Weather is crazy around here!

who do you know here in RC?  yeah the tallest jacks i could find for a good price go up to 23.5 inches.  my truck sits at about 24.5 to the bottom of the frame   :shake:  i have some of the small solid concrete blocks that i can set the jacks on and that should be just fine.

alright, i made some great progress today on the toy.  i got everything removed and the entire rear section of the frame cut off. all i have to do now is clean up the frame where the new rails will be attaching and it is ready for a new frame! i also need to get my new shackle hangers and spring perches built at work. a buddy of mine is coming over tomorrow to help me get 220 wired into my garage so i can use a welder. hopefully i will get alot accomplished this week!

i really like the explorer springs. they flex well and are'nt extremely long. the only thing i dont like is the fact that i had to move the spring hanger farther down the curve on the stock frame. that caused me to get hung up on rocks alot. but i am going to remedy that problem when i rebuild the frame.

thanks dudes!  now i am trying to decide how i am going to rebuild the tube work.  i think i will end up cutting off the rear halo and the two down bars that are attached to the main hoop.  i have a few ideas in mind on how i am going to re-design all of it.

We are having another blizzard today so no work. hopefully i can get a few things done.

Here is a current checklist:
-fab inboard spring hangers
-reinforce stock x-member where i had to notch it for the driveline
-build rear driveline out of a front newer style double cardon shaft so i can point my pinion directly at my t-case.
-figure out where i am mounting fuel cell and spare tire
-finish tube work
-install new tail lights

i didnt get the truck set down tonight but i got the spring hangers all fabbed up and welded on, put new centerpins in my leafs. tomorrow i have to cut the stock spring perches off the axle. then i can install the axle with the new perches.  here are a few pics, i still need to grind some material off the bottom of the spring hangers. i didnt think they would hang down that far.  once i grind them down i will also build an angled skidder from the frame to the hangers so if i get into any rocks close to the hangers they will just slide right on through!

so we are having another blizzard today!!  its the third weekend in a row that we have had one. so for the good news, i got my truck driveable last night!  its not done yet but i can drive it.  the fuel cell is just temporarily mounted right now so i can take it somewhere to flex it out and measure for shocks.  after i figure out where to mount them i can then decide where the tank, spare tire, and storage areas will be.  these are the only pics i could get. i fired it up about an hour ago to go to the store and plow through the snow. it was a blast!
