Ok, I got the new master in, threw the drivers seat back in, and it is drivable again!! I am very happy now! Now I am just waiting to find a vinyl floor kit, and I can put the interior all back together! :woohoo:

I ordered all my engine parts Friday:
-Rockers and adjusters from Japan Engines (ebay store)
-EFI Pro cam, adjustable cam gear, dual row timing conversion from LCE
-Street/RV head, piece together kit from EB
-Called machine shop, bored 30, new crank, reconditioned rods, decked block, line honed umm... I think thats it...


Here are pics from quite a while ago of my loading my engine into my truck by myself when it was pretty cold out. I dunno why I never posted these? I also didn't know that I could just lift the engine into the back of the truck, I thought it was heavier than that. What I did was jack up the front, rachet strap the frame to the rear axle to compress the rear suspension, used a rachet strap to pull the engine into the back of my truck, ummm... thats all I can remember, it was a while ago. :haha:

Now its interior upgrade pics time. I did a vinyl floor from this place: http://www.auto-interior.com/moldedvinyl.htm It was a PITA especially since it was too cold to get the stuff to cooperate. Next time I will just rhinoline it (or something similar that I do at home). Pics with words follow.

Truck after wheeling last Saturday, it took me a week to finish this between the cold and my laziness.






This is what the vinyl looked like after I let it sit in my room for a couple days to warm up.




Its huge compared to the carpet. There was a lot of cutting that went into this. I started by taking off all but an inch away from the carpet.




Then I got lazy and quit taking pics until redpim1 reminded me to take pics of it. So here is the truck ready for the vinyl flooring.




Here it is all done! After this pic, I lifted it all back up and put the supplied insulation under it. It was a PITA.






Here are all the leftovers. I don't know if you can tell, but the carpet is completely trashed. Stains and everything. Brake fluid does amazing work.




Here is the truck w/ everything back in, and with floormats and w/o, I kept the floormats in an attept to prevent too much stuff from getting on the new vinyl. I got kinda picture happy, cuz I was done. :greengrin:












This is not real exiting, but it took me FOREVER! So I figured it was worth putting in my thread. Plus its my thread and I will do what I want.

hey how much did you have to shell out for that vinyl floor?  Did it help with road noise?

hey how much did you have to shell out for that vinyl floor?  Did it help with road noise?

Umm... I think it was between 120-130 with shipping. I cannot tell if it helped with road noise at all, but I imagine it probably quieted it down a bit compared to carpet. I always have my window down no matter what, so I can't tell if anything changed.

Went wheeling today... didn't get very many pics, cuz I was having too much fun, but here are a few from driving down a ditch, I made it while a cherokee that was trying to be cool got stuck (this is back a ways down the ditch from where the pics are, where the pics are are the easy part). I also got some engine parts in, pics for those will come in a few days once I get all my parts.











And all done and ready to go home!

:woohoo: got the rest of my engine parts!! I ordered everything last Friday afternoon, LCE came Tuesday; EB came Thursday; and Japan Engines (JE) came today. Pic!

OK, from left to right: JE rockers and adjusters; LCE cam, adjustable cam gear (red deal) and all the stuff for dual row conversion (cover, oil pump, water pump, gaskets/seals, timing chain, guides, bolt kit, cam gear, crank gear); EB gasket set, head bolts, piston rings, freeze plugs, piston bushings, pistons, and last but definitely not least: EB street/RV head. I am very impressed with this head upon first glance. Its a heavier casting (than stock), and has more material in key areas. larger ports, larger valves, its very nice, and very :bling:

Thanks guys! Its a fricken expensive pile of parts as well. Now I am regretting spending all the money on it; should have spent it elsewhere. Oh well.

Ok, here are the pics of what I found in my OIL PAN a few months ago when I initially tore apart the engine. It had a brand new palstic timing chain kit in it, but it must have been a dee dee dee that did it to leave this stuff in the oil pan. :yikes: :headshake:




For size comparison, a full chip of one of my favorite chips!









Thats right! This was in my OIL PAN after a timing chain replacement! This is what caused the engine to run so crappily. It sucked this stuff onto the oil pickup tube, which killed oil pressure, which let the chain tensioner loose, which in turn allowed the timing chain to skip gears, which in turn lead the engine to run like crap and get taken out and replaced with a temporary engine.

This is all, of course, an assumption, but it seems very reasonable to me! :yesnod:

i think hes fine spending the cash, he will get at least 200,000  more miles out of what hes doing so its not like its not going to be worth it.....

Less? Yes it would have been cheaper to build a chevy motor to the same durability/power combo that I am building this engine to, but what about all the $$ adapters? Plus if I did a chevy 4.3 motor swap, I would be ditching the manual trans for an auto. Thats even more money. I think in the long run I will be just fine putting this much into my motor and keeping my original drivetrain for now. Of course I can always build a 4.3 or chevy 3.4 w/ supercharger for it later and drop those in along with an auto trans. :dunno:

Thats the thing though. If I swapped in a 4.3, a new auto would go in with it, and upgraded axles. So that would be very expensive compared to what I am doing now. Knowing me, I would go balls to the wall with the 4.3 rebuild (I am not putting a non-rebuilt motor into my truck) and end up spending like at least $1500. Sure, some people could do it cheaper than my 22re rebuild, but I could not; thats just the way my brain works is upgrade one thing, might as well upgrade the rest while I am at it.

I agree, the 22RE is a strong reliable motor, If I would have had the time I would have done it that way, putting some extra money in good parts, my truck had about 229K miles on it when I had a shop rebuild it for about $2K. Well worth it in my mind.
