Just got back from Hot Springs, and it turned out fairly well.

Unfortunately, the injectors didn't make it there in time.... So, he still runs like feces.

I was able to get the shock tower put in on the passenger side.

I made a mount for the ARB compressor out of 1/8" plate attached to the shock tower in the engine bay, passenger side next to the intake manifold. Turned out pretty nice.

Also was able to finish up my front driveshaft. Looks like it's going to work okay. Probably will vibe at high speed, but it's got a nice amount of travel.

I also removed the overload springs from the rear F150 packs. I debated a long time on whether or not to add the pinion adjustment shims I have (steel), but read that if your t-case and pinion flange point are in the same plane, then you only need a u-joint on both ends. If I rotated the pinion up, I think I'd need a CV in the rear, and I'm not sure I have room up in there... THOUGHTS???

THEN the best part - I took it crawling. Open diffs and bald 31s bring the suck, but it did really well just crawling. Had my first legitimate rock damage (rocker panels...), and it was sweet!!!

My camera died while I was building this stuff, so these are the best I've got...

Thanks for all the prayers, gentlemen

I'm not totally sure. I didn't really like how stiff they seemed to be, so I thought I'd run them negative a little while and break 'em in. I might throw the overloads back on when I check into the steel pinion shims I got to rotate my pinion up a little. At that time, I'll have to make another drive shaft. I didn't wanna deal with all that this weekend.

SIDE NOTE: Sorry for the rotated pic of the shock hoop. Can' get it corrected, so we'll just have to deal with it...

School me on pinion angle vs. driveshafts...

I've heard that I'd need a CV in the rear if my pinion flange pointed at the t-case flange. Any truth to this? Right now I'm running single u-joints on each side, but I'd like to rotate the pinion up with some pinion shims I've got and then make a new drive shaft.

Anyone have experience with flange angles vs. driveshaft type?

YotaJosh

You are correct.  :yesnod:

CV shaft = pinion should point at Tcase.
Std ujoint shaft = pinion and Tcase flange should be parallel.

Proud of you...

And this helps me how????

I'm talking about my front with too much vibe at speeds.

I'm also not going to run a STOCK rear, as I've raised my drivetrain substantially and changed the length.

I'm confused as to your point. You want a cookie?  :headscratch:

Haha!!!

Nah, the front I expect to vibe if I run 4HI at speed.

There's no way to run a stock rear shaft. My driveshaft is shorter than stock. Plus, if you'd seen the wall on those shafts, it's really scary and depressing. I don't plan to mall crawl like you, Glen  :gap:  Well, heck, I'd be happy to just get to the park right now...  :outtahere:

Good and bad news...

First, I replaced the injector, and he seems to run BETTER now, but he's still not running perfect.... Dang't...  :smack:

I put the other front shock in, so now he doesn't bounce around AS BAD. I still need rear shocks pretty bad if I wanna street this beast.

Now the bad...

He has terrible death wobble at about 30 MPH. His front isn't aligned, so I'm going to blame that for right now. After he's aligned, I PRAY that he's more stable. I also kick myself everytime I think about how I put the steering box too darn forward... Learning curve is pretty high, here.  :help:

Also, his tranny, crawl box, or rear t-case growls after I get him out of third and into 4th at speed. I haven't really investigated much, but I PRAY it isn't anything serious. Again, looks like he's gonna be a designated crawler... Piss...  :rivers:

I need to have him aligned and exhaust put back in. He's obnoxiously loud. I also need to redo his rear drive shaft. I'd rather it pull out than bottom out.

I still need to get his tranny covered up. I like looking through the floor board to see some rocks, but I think it's time to fix it. I'm going to try to reuse as much stock tranny tunnel metal as I can. It's going to be a pain. I think I'll have to make a subframe for the seats, too. Geesh...  :hammerhead:

Everytime I come home it seems I find more stuff that I have to do.... Geesh...  :stopit:

Christmas break is the time to get him done

dude, all you need to do is pull both front tires, clamp some angle iron (make sure its not bent) i used a piece on each side that was 36 inches long, and set my toe in at 1/8th inch,  it took me and Vman FOREVER to get it where i wanted it, but it was worth it and didnt cost me a dime

You want a piece of steel that is exactly the diameter of your tire..mine are 36" too

Jordan7118

Not really. I'll be headed to Kansas the 17th to have Christmas with Grandma, and then I should be home around the 22nd to work on Snoop and try to get him finished up.

I ordered some lower shock mounts from Ruff Stuff Specialties for use in the rear. They should work nicely and allow me to run the big Bilstein 14s angled in the rear.

Im trying to sell that exact bracket. I ordered a set for my build, but didnt end up using them. With mounting below my new shock cross member, and mounting above my axle I ended up running 10inh shocks at a slight / \

Jordan7118

Well, piss...  :(

My angles don't work out to where I can mount on top of the axle. My fuel tank is almost right above my axle, so I have to push the shocks forward towards the front. I plan to build off the crossmember that's right above the axle to mount the tops and put the bottoms in these little shock brackets.

Did you like the brackets? Were they good quality? Wish I had known a little bit earlier, as I would've bought yours   :ack:

Jordan7118

I'm starting to reconsider my t-case mount. I'm thinking about using the FROR center plate and building off of that with some sleeved bushings. I noticed this past trip that I may have ovaled out some holes to make it work on the back, and now it's rocking in the  mount. Not a big deal, but I need to fix it sooner or later. That along with everything else...

Hope you all have a very blessed Christmas season. Remember the reason for the season! And no, it's not so we all have an excuse to buy more  :turtle: stuff    :rofl2:

Here's what I've come up with.

It makes use of FROR's center plate kit, and two of Ballistic Fab's poly bushings with sleeves found here http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Single-poly-bushing-with-DOM-sleeve_p_15-1197.html

After drawing this up in paint, I'm thinking maybe the gussets under the pipe should be above the pipe as the t-case is trying to push down on the pipe and the mounts will push up.

I know I have other stuff to do, but I'd rather not deal with this again. If I have money, I might just order all this up and get to work. We'll see.

Post up your thoughts, comments, suggestions por favor

Jordan7118

Going home today. Maybe I'll get some decent progress done while I'm home over the break  :crossed:

Merry Christmas to all of you! Hope you and yours are truly blessed!   :smooch:

Haha! Nah, the main reason is that he's three hours away. I wasn't doing so hot in school, so I realized that I needed to put my focus back on school and treat Snoopy like the hobby that he is.

You guys...  :slap:

I ordered the FROR center plate, and it should come in shortly. Then I'll be redoing the mount. I know, I know... "You should be building stuff, not redoing stuff." I want to get this done right and then patch up his tranny tunnel and be done with it.

To Do:
- New rear driveshaft (made mine too long last time... I know...)
- Plumb front ARB and compressor
- Wire rear locker with ORS harness
- Rear shocks
- Rear pinion angle / add leaf, remove leaf...
- Redo t-case mount
- Tranny tunnel and possible seat sub-floor  ::)
- Belly skidplate
- Front fender trimming - possibly rear
- Bumpstops
- Diagnose transmission / t-case noises

Then the party starts!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!

79coyotefrg

:whip:  sounds like a plan

i got my parking brake installed today :woohoo:
