IC's linked 88 on fodees Saturn 1.9l engine swap

because this axle basicly fell in my lap and i had the money.. been wanting to buy a 60 for the past 8 years or so and i would have either had to order one from back east ( read barely useable rust bucket) or pay far more than i did..   Id like rockwells but im planning on putting my truck back on the street and thats a little to wide.. btw stock isnt 2.5"  the 47 splines arent even 2.5"  they are 2" http://store.oemaxle.com/product_info.php?cPath=3_18&products_id=5

cab and frame dont NEEEEEEED a bed but one would be cool. doesnt even need paper work either i can take care of that. and no dice on the taper =\

Thanks! and yeah hopefully i can locate a cab and frame.. or atleast a frame soon  id like a new cab too since mine is pretty hashed now =\  core support is flat out toast from rolls and other BS.

Progress! sorta?

Went and picked it up from T-YOTER today. putting the 12k winch on the trailer was the best idea ever, made pretty quick work of moving a truck that had no rear axle or springs under it. Worked pretty well for getting it off of the trailer too! minus my new crunched rear beam of the trailer i wanted to replace anyway.

I have some questions about wiring though.  This was an 84 2wd with an analog efi motor ( still has the ecu in it and its a 2 plug so thats how i know)  Basicly im wondering IF i can take the motor/motor harness and ECU from my 88 and slap it into this and use the body harness or will there be some differences ? i havent really had a chance to look much yet but just throwing around some ideas/questions

being as the 88 was b*std year with the engine :pokinit:. the harness, i bet will not be exact swap... body wise.
worth a shot though.

Yeah wont plug into the ecu :(. The plug is just a hair to wide. Im trying to find a pinout to see if maybe i can just swap plugs

im just over at my friends right now. its been a few years since weve been out there on the trail. i think the last time was up in the snow if i remember that one time. you had a hell of a time getting by a tree haha. maybe sometime in the next year or two ya ill see you out on the trail?

i'll be out on the trail this summer for sure. plan on hitting up the con/fordyce alot since i'll have a truck finally that i wont have to worry about stupid bs and i'll be able to drive it on the road ! well i'll prob trailer to the con/fordyce cause 5.13's 22re and 40s will bring the suck  that far.

id think 513s and 40s would do good, not long trip worthy tho.
I thought 488s and 42s were decent around town, the hills up to paradise got kinda slow

I can see alot more everyday wheelin with somethin street legal

yeah its not to bad mobbin up and down the street but the highlakes would be about as far as id want to go. when i first went to the con i was on 37" mtrs and 4.10s and it was OK but i also wasnt fullwidth or linked up so the truck was a hair lighter  but i also went in on the south lake tahoe side so i think the road was a little more forgiving if i remember right.. been so long

i wish i could have gotten the moving of the truck on video but last night i did some fabulatin so i could turn the truck around to get to the motor and front axle stuff and with no rear axle under the truck it was a bit of a challenge. Sooo i had an old ifs rear  so i just welded it to my bumper with some other scrap and put one tire on ( tried to put two but the other one hit the bed and bumper, dont want to kill my boggers!) and got to doing front wheel digs everywhere to get it spun around haha.

Not much to report.. waiting on some creeper joints and bungs so i can shorten my rear links up since where i want my axle to sit my long ass links are almost to the front of the door lol also as soon as my tax return hits im ordering my 6 lug wheel hubs for my 60 and brake brackets. Today i mostly just farted around and got the stock crossmembers cut out.  those things bring the suck and are fully in the way so no more horseshoe and the 2wd tranny mount went aswell!



Also started tearing my front links and parts i needed off the front axle out aswell.. sad to see it sitting on the ground though =(



Hopefully those damn creeper joints will show up soon so i can get stuff underway on the rear but for now im going to focus on getting the front axle in
