IFS steering box mounted, I haven't welded the plates to the frame yet, wanted to make sure it is where I want it first!

After drilling out the crush pins or whatever they are technically called, I was able to lengthen the steering shaft since the IFS box is mounted farther forward.

After drilling these plastic pin out, I figured it would be easy to lengthen...   :hammerhead:  It turned out to be almost as hard as drilling the frame, which according to Glen is harder than woopecker lips.
After about half an hour of pounding wit a 3lb hammer and trying to hold the top I managed to slide it apart about 2 inches.  I ended up sliding a short piece of tubing over the shaft to pound on while I held the top with a big crescent wrench...  At that point it was looking pretty rough but I got her cleaned up.  Here are a few pics.

Here is a close up in case anyone dosen't understand what I did.  I found several articles/threads aout drilling these shear pins out to lengthen the saft, but no actual pictures...  So here is a coser pic. :woohoo:

The IFS box mount was a kit that I just modified.  
I completely rebuilt both knuckles and did a vented rotor swap, added a truss and go-fast paint.  I didn't pull the third out because it feels tight with very little slack in it and I plan on pulling it anyway as soon as I can get 5.29s

from your axleswap12r pic it almost looks like the box needs to be farther foreward, but then again it is at an angle and the weight of the truck isnt on the axle

Could be...  I think it is in a good spot.  I could have gone about another inch forward.

i put mine as far forward as it would go without major cutting of the body mount

i put mine in a vise then using a 2 foot 3/8 extension inside the slip part and drove it out,  worked much easier than what it sounds like you did

also i found out when i removed my tilt column (just didnt need it) and re installed the old 79 column that i gained a inch of column length, i think this is because the 79 had that rag thing at the box :dunno:  so i have a lower section from a 83 truck, and the upper section from the 79,

I bolted the V6 calipers on the vented rotors...  When I put the wheel on however, I ended up having to grind down the caliper so it wouldn't be touching the back of the wheel.  I took quite a bit of material off the caliper with a 40 grit flapper disk.   :yupyup:

The flapper disk left a nice smooth finish, and I just resprayed them with a few coats of red caliper paint after the wheel clearance was fixed.   :greengrin:

I also got my steering stabilizer mounted.  I welded the bracket to the top of the axle housing (circled in red) to keep the stabilizer fairly parallel...  I don't know if it matters if it is parallel when doing low speed wheeling, but this locating tucked it out of the way and worked nicely for my application.

Once everything was tightened down I confirmed a problem with the tie rod actually sitting on top of the leaf spring pack.  This looks to be because of the thickness of the angled shims between the leaf springs and the spring perch(circled in yellow).  Although they help with pinion angle, they cause the spring packs to sit high enough that the tie rod dosent clear...  Has anyone else had this problem?  In the morning I'm going to jack it back up , loosen the u-bolts and try to take the angled shims out as painlessly as possible, that should clearance the tie rod a little under a half inch above the leaf springs...   :dunno:

Why don't they just make the steering arms like 3/8" taller to fix that problem??  Im sure someone would have thought of that already...

Yeah, I need quite a few things but I'm on a budget here...  So I do what I can with what I've got.  :)
Christmas is coming up though...  If you haven't gotten my present yet I could use some 1.5in spacers... :gap:
