I did notice that too BM when I last changed my avatar, it didn't immediately change my avatar but it had changed the next time I logged in so I thought it was just my computer since it was about ready to die anyways. I do have to say that with my new computer the board does load much faster, but that may have something to do with going from Me to Vista.

Well actually for some reason our server is working faster right now.

I made all of the changes that I can, and at a time, it was still very slow.

It seemed that the last time I called them to complain, they must have done something because the forum has been working "ok" for almost a week now.

Ok guys,

It takes 24 - 48 hours for the domain name changes to take effect to the internet.

I checked the server at 7:15am this morning and the transfer had still not completed.

Then I checked the server again at about 10:45am and that is when I found out that the transfer had completed.

Therefore, a copy of the forum dating back to the 23rd (I believe) was now up and running, however since the directories had changed, most of the settings on the forum need to be updated.

Sorry it was away when the new server went up. I am now working out the rest of the bugs that might still exist from name changes.

This sounds like a DNS problem. Is it possible there is more than one domain name server working here? One pointing to the new server and the other pointing to the old server.

What is the IP address for the new server? That would direct to the correct server if used instead of the name.

Can you make a link using the IP and sufix address so it can be tried by the people that can't get on?

It can take up to 72 hours for all of the DNS servers to replicate to one another.   DNS is an active distributed data base that is world wide, people in different regions will get request responses from different DNS servers, etc, etc :blah: :blah:

sorry geeking out.    :hammer:

Willy Mammoth

That's what I was saying. But if you use the IP you bypass the DNS till then.

Ok, I believe the attachments are back in order. Can someone please check their avatar and attachments to confirm this, thankyou.

Regarding the DNS Name Change: Last night after I got home from class, I logged on to find that there were only 21 people online and the last post had been made on the 23rd. I completely freaked out because I thought the company who is hosting our server was still installing software on our machine and had maybe overwritten our database with the old copy from our old shared service.

After inspecting some things, I realized that the settings were for the old server, and could only be working if I was actually viewing the website through the old server.

Sure enough any changes made to the files on our new dedicated server did not appear on what I was viewing as www.marlincrawler.com, and after examining our domain name information, which was current, the only logical explanation was that I had somehow jumped into the internet in a spot where our name server had not been updated yet.

The strange thing is that my father's computer would pull up the current site, that had over 300 users online at that time. We both were using the same wireless connection through the same home network, and yet one computer was viewing the old site while the other computer was viewing the new site.

Anyways, I knew that it would just need some more time, so off to sleep I went. I am on right now just to check if indeed the name has changed, and sure enough, this is the website from our new dedicated server.

Regards,
BigMike

Since this new forum software is still under development by its publishers there might be a few bugs lurking around. So if you happen to notice something that is not working correctly, please post it here and I will see about fixing it.

Thanks in advance,
BigMike
