I have set a maximum width and height limit to any and all images posted in the Shout Box! today.

I have tested this with FireFox (1.5.0.9) and Internet Exploder (6.0.3790.1830) and it works well.

I can adjust this size limit if needed.

The new Shout Box! version, with the limited frame width and height, prevents large images from effecting the rest of the forum index page, but it did not restrict displaying large images.

The idea is to restrict the Shout Box! to smilies.

Please let me know if your browser is having difficultly viewing images in the Shout Box! and what Browser software and version you are using.

Regards,
BigMike

I'm sorry I wasn't as specific with what I was trying to say, I wasn't referring to coding and such what I was referring to was the old emails sent to you about the issue. I was thinking that the board should have its own email address that your trusted mod and admin would have access to.  It would be somewhat like this thread but for people who cannot post on the board because they are having trouble getting signed up or other board issues that a mod could read and alert you about the problem instead of when you have some free time and start thumbing through all the email you get.

I was thinking you would place a link to the email address promentally on the board and the reason it is there for feedback and help getting logged in or activated so that they didn't get buried in your account until you have the time to look through them.

At that point it wouldn't take as long for you to find out there is an issue that has grown large enough to consume a good portion of the little time you have to 1 correct the issue and then fix it for the people affected.

I just had that happen to me when I first logged in. When I loaded the board the smileys were really big as was the text until I logged in, but since I logged in they've been normal.

Ok, apparently people are complaining about the Shout Box in the Shout Box instead of reporting trouble in the BUG REPORT THREAD located here, so I am just going to disable the code I just installed and try to resolve it tomorrow in the morning.

Sorry for the trouble. I want this feature so I will continue to pursue it.

I think it's a great feature limiting the size, it will keep people from posting images that belong in threads and other inappropriate images that have to be deleted immediatly due to thier offensive nature.

Dang, just like that a 800 pixel wide image has been posted. Its not that pictures are uncool or anything, its just that its a shout box. If you want to share images, then I think a thread would be more appropriate for security measures.

Ha, you could be right about that. I was on earlier with Netscape and it didn't do that.

Glen if your computer meets the system requirements I'd go with Netscape or some other browser IE sucks, I'm stuck with it on this computer since I have Me and you need XP to be able to run Netscape. Netscape has tab options like the others that allow multiple pages to be opened without having to load more programs using all your resourses.

http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/

Here's a link to netscapes browser, I think Mark knows what your system can handle so ask him if you could use it. I like it a lot but only have it on my laptop.

There shouldn't be any problem with the Avatar system.
One thing I did change to help reduce the load on the database and hence increase the overall speed of the forum, was to no longer have the avatars database driven.

So now, instead of the forum going through the database to figure out permissions for avatars and such, they are just uploaded to a new directory and accessed directly.

What I have noticed with this change, is that when I upload a new avatar to my profile, the page reloads and the same avatar exists. I recently discovered that this is because the file name is not changed (server side), and so for those browsers who have already cached my image, they will need an actual page reload to refresh the image in the browsers cache.

If this has happened to you, then simply view the image by itself, and then reload it by using F5 or your refresh button.

The newly uploaded avatar should replace the old one and you'll be set.
