this truck is awesome! i was in portugal this summer to see my grandparents and saw a few second and third gen double cabs but yours has way more room seem like. you really do some awesome work, im sure you'll have a shop some day. I would hate to see that thing beat to hell though. build a light buggy or f toy and haul  it with this one after the 3.4 swap just might have to add a sc too lol.

from talking to some guys overseas I think my cab is about 10" longer than the ones they get over there, the leg room in the back of mine is nice to have and quite a bit more than you'd have in a stock 4runner. I am planning on a buggy after i get all the parts, i'll be using my 22r, tranny, and axles, now just to decide between going for an f-toy or building my own tube chassis

finally got my bender set up, built a stand for it and the air over hydro ram

Sorry it's been a while. As for my truck there isn't much of an update, I still haven't been able to pass smog so no registration. Waiting on a distributor. Designed the dash as well but won't be starting on that until it passes

In the mean time I welded up some shock mounts and bump stops on an fj40

and working on a new spare carrier on an 89

this one will be getting a tilting & sliding adjustment, just figuring out which one to go with, it will also get skinned to try and get a nice stock tailgate look

wow nice build.  I came across your write up on pirate on marlin someone linked it on a fourm and I have been checking in once in a while to see the updates.  I didn't know it was on here too.  I read all 11 pages (at the time) and my eyes were about to bleed, but I just had to see the progress.  I have got my eye out for a truck to do my own quad cab but i am sure you get people saying that alot.  I have done a few drawings of what it will look like, but putting it together is a whole different story. I still need to finish the 4runner i am working on now.

I like that the tire is flat.
I like it flat too so far, it will be able to go flat, straight up or a couple angles in between when it's done. Here's a couple more pictures of what i came up with for the pinned slide adjustment

Nice tire carrier. Very "outside the box" design. I love it.

Talon84x4

here are the rest of the pictures to the finish:

the swing stop pin

the framework for the tailgate skin

just before paint

painted the frame, gate, and edges of tailgate skin to ward off rust until the bed gets painted to match the cab

now i can focus on my 84 again, doors and a dash...and smog

Iwas wondering if you had more information on the ford F150 gas tank swap.  I never have liked how low the stock gas tank sits and was planning on doing something different.  I started pricing out fuel cells and they are expensive and designed for dragsters and buggies so I would end up cutting and altering it anyways.  the F150 tank is just what I need.

Here's one of my earlier posts:

The measurements are only approximate, not taking into account for the rounded corners, ribs & indents, etc. but do not include the pinch seam all the way around the tank:
33" wide and 25" long
5" deep at one end and 7.5" deep at the sender end
and here is a link to the stock replacement tank for the same year: http://www.jcwhitney.com/replacement-gas-tanks-for-cars-and-trucks/p2005688.jcwx?skuId=148972&filterid=c2034d19344y1993j1

let me know if that helps, or if you need different shots

here are the pics of it mounted plus the lines

it will get a cage/skid plate below the tank

As far as getting it running, I pulled the old fuel pump from the sender and just extended and draw tube down in it's place within the sending unit. I also flipped the float over in the other direction so that the fuel gauge would read in the correct direction. Any other information you're looking for?

Also here's the pirate thread, I found which tank to get from reading this: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484247&highlight=ford+gas+tank

It might have been covered, but did it pass smog with the new tank? Do you think it was worth it? Run into any other problems? I never liked the placement of the stock tank and it looks like the swap isn't too hard.
