Just saw over on Pirate about this truck being stolen last year. Glad to see that it was recovered. That would have severely sucked if it totally disappeared after all that work.

Looking forward to what you have in store. Way to take diversity and step to the next level.

For the moment focusing on the front end this time, built some "little" frame stands

and then got to pulling more apart

With it all torn down my thoughts are always changing, keeps becoming a deeper rebuild
Sofar the plans are a bit of this widening-front-axle-right-way as well as a bit of this 4wheelunderground 3-Link, but there is the possibility that I give it a go tackling a 3 link myself.
In addition i'm working on a built in winch tray, bolt on tube core support tied into shocks mounts, plans for a plate bumper to fit new grill and lights. York mount, battery and accessory relocation brackets. After all this i'll move to the back, but just as it is this short list could take a while. Tray will probably come first once I decide on what I want to do with the front frame.... In the mean time it's bike to work.

I'm glad too, the important stuff survived. It sucks that it's taken this long to get back to it but i'm hoping it will be worth the wait in the end.

Hey mate. That sucks about your rig getting stolen... it makes me sick to think that someone with the same interest as us would steal another Man's pride and joy....

I read that someone stole your custom quad cab doors. Would you be interested in a set of factory dual cab rear doors? I have a pair in Aus if you're interested. Might save you some work in the rebuild.

Talon84x4

They stole the tube doors, I still have my front doors and my incomplete rear doors. Thank you for the offer, just wondering though how wide are the windows on the back doors? Curious if it's close to what I have mine at.

Ah righto. I can measure up the doors and the windows for you tomorrow if you like. I am away at the moment.

I'm sure you'll fab up your own stuff, but if you're interested, I'd be happy to send one of these York OBA brackets I fabbed up your way if it would help with your build.

It bolts up to the factory 22R-E A/C bracket. (working on fabricating up a mount that holds both the factory A/C compressor and a York compressor).

Anyway, I see that you've got A/C, but maybe this bracket already built with the holes in the right spot for the York would help..

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you're interested..

Anyway, look forward to this build

Very nice work, unfortunately I don't have AC bracket to mount the York in this fashion. I'm trying to design a bracket that will both mount my 210, as well as replace the stock 22r smog pump tensioner plate. Do you cut the plates yourself? I use Autocad all day every day and will be in need of a place willing to cut out the odd plate or 2 or 10.

I also designed this bracket just in case..

I designed it in preparation for the bracket mounting both the York and the stock A/C compressor.

I don't have a CNC plasma cutter myself, but I have a pretty decent hookup at a steel mill...

Let's work together to get this bracket made!  York and A/C for all!

I know of a small 4x4 fab shop in Norcal that could likely cut these out.

I'm up for it, I will get some templates made and then get them into cad and see what we end up with. What software do you use?

Do they accept one-off stuff? I don't see a whole lot of these moving being such a specific application (non-AC 22r with smog pump). That being said I'd be up for working on the design and then making the cad files available for free, maybe offering pre-cut unwelded plates in a flat rate box for a decent price for those interested.

I know you like to build your own stuff, but I picked up this 4X4Labs front bumper last week that might fit your build better than mine.

If you have time for some fab work, I'd trade this for your expertise with a couple things.

I texted the other day, not sure if you got it.  So far, I think I can get the rear bumper installed myself, but am thinking about some suspension improvements.  I also have some ideas/repairs on the Cruiser's bumper.  I will text you again.

Talon84x4

I've been working on getting my old pictures back up. Need to re-upload them to a new host, will try to get all of them sorted out this weekend

Also this came in from Mayhem Metal Works:

(2) +3" housing extensions and used +3" Longfields w/hub gears
now I just need to find an empty 4cyl 3rd, order the alignment bar and draw up the pucks and see if I can get someone at work to turn them.

A question for the guys who have run a "back-bone" style truss across the front housing like so:

I know I've seen a few, that being said I'm wondering why there aren't more? Is there a draw back I'm not seeing other than decreasing your housings approach angle? For me while still running leafs for now this seems like the best way to get support across the entire housing without "breaks" at the spring locations. I appreciate any feedback

Mudder

IMO trussing the center part of the axle is worthless. I was going to truss the top of my 84-85 axle and was doing some reading and if you have the later axle with the brace on the bottom there is zero point to the truss. The axle is more likely to bend at the knuckle balls. As for the earlier axles, those could use a truss.

Talon84x4

The knuckle balls will be getting gussets top and bottom so not so worried about those. I'm concerned with the housing at the spring perches, with the added width of the axle there will be even more leverage on the housing at those points. This isn't a go-fast rig but things happen, from what I've read and pictures I've seen that is the location of most bends.

PAToyota

How much are you widening the axle? I'd agree with Mudder - for a stock axle - but as you go wider you're asking it to do more than was originally intended and have to take that into consideration.

+3" each side.

Wouldn't think that would make that much of a difference but here is the added separation between knuckle and perch that creates my concern:

anyway, axle perches welded along with knuckle balls, still needing a diff shave, knuckle gussets and the main truss. I've got the pucks machined for the alignment bar, just need to order the rod and find an empty 3rd.

and started on the new front crossmember/winch tray out of 3/8" plate

once the side plates get cut and welded in I can start figuring out the core support
