From what I can see, it looks like all the armor, and doors were removed.  I am assuming the drivetrain is still there.  Since I see a front driveline still hooked to the axle.

Was the armor unique/custom? Any way to hopefully find these assholes when they put it on their rigs?

BigMike

From Talon,

QuoteSo far the missing items are: 35" bfg km2s with rims, all 4 custom tube doors, radio, speakers, interior lights, exterior rock lights, front bumper, licence plate, custom fj style grill, visionx headlights, brand new battery, front bilstein shocks, everything withing glovebox, maps, registration, misc tools, all spare parts and fluids in bed compartments. They also cut the registration sticker off of the rear licence plate and smashed the plate up pretty good. I will get pictures tomorrow in the light

Yes, unique items. Half doors are custom and the rear two will likely only fit Talon's truck (beings it's a custom extended quad cab), and of course the FJ C style grill. Here is what it looked like before & after

Not bad at all, I feel I got pretty lucky considering what could have happened. Will take a little while to piece back together but the important stuff is all there.

I know its common in Cali, not so much where im from.
Do you know how they stole it?

I read through this build when I saw it was stolen. You have great skills, I'm sure it's nothing but time for you get it back up better than ever. I guess it's because I come from a different area where automobile theft isn't a common issue, but when I see this happen to a prized possession that countless hours of your sweat, thoughts and actions have been poured into it all for some low life pile of crap to make a few hundred dollars off the parts it infuriated me. If this were to happen to even my simplest most boring rig It would take all self control i have not to leave the individual(s) responsible in a wheelchair with 1 arm , 1 eye, no legs, half a tongue, and no teeth every day thinking that if they had just minded their own business and not fiddled with someone else's property they could still be a functional member of society. I'm a cruel hearted person when it comes to a thief. I'm glad to see you got it back in almost one piece. Sorry for the rant, end of my rambling.

Our trucks can be started with a flat head screwdriver or a very lightly shaved key. They are incredibly easy to steal. If you haven't already, put a kill switch on yours as well as further theft deterrent. If you can, keep it locked up in the garage. Ask me how I know  :headshake:

redneckcustoms13

I'll contribute a little to the above post. As I've stated previously it isn't an issue down here, however all of my close group of friends have toyotas so we all just have worn down keys that can start about all of them. That said, I'd we had an issue with theft a battery cut off switch under the hood with a good pad lock(the kind that doesn't expose the hasp) would be a big deterrent. Go a step further and have a simple toggle switch under the dash in a hidden location that controls the fuel pump and or ignition coil. Get real crazy and tie that hot rod to an oak tree around the rear axle with a 2" barge cable from the ship yard lol

All it had was battery cut-off, used to have an alarm but as soon as I found out I could get in, start it up and drive down the street while it was still set and not trip it, I just pulled it out. You can trust it will be getting some additions to anti-theft. Wheels are constantly turning

My tow rig has a decent alarm, only because the factory fob for the door locks died. I have a kill on almost all of my vehicles just in case someone who isn't supposed to be there messes with them.

Good to hear. If you ever revisit a car alarm, I strongly recommend a two-way unit. I've had this inexpensive unit in my MR2 since Jan 2011 and love it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00125686W Always has at least a quarter mile range. I'd assume newer units have an even better range. I realize that if someone "really" wants my car they'll probably get it, but in addition to the other anti-theft devices I use, it is an amazing piece of mind knowing that a device in my pocket will start beeping if someone messes with my car while I'm shopping or eating dinner or in a movie theater, etc. It has a starter disable feature which would solve the issue you experienced in the past.

Additionally, it has a trunk feature which is just a basic 1 or 2 second 12 vdc output available to run anything at the push of a button. I've been thinking, we could leverage this to trip a relay that disables the car. The ability to disable my car from within a quarter mile radius from me would be quite amazing. If I was sleeping and heard it fire up and do a burn out down the street I could just reach over and press a button.

Regards,
BigMike

Thank you Big Mike for the link, I will be adding an alarm as well, the benefits of a 2 way sound like where I want to go. On a side note they have 12v air raid sirens on amazon as well... :disturbed:

Slowly but surely it's coming back together! have a different grill and headlights figured out, some used rims and tires lined up.

Still on the search for door hinges for both driver and passenger side, some 14-16" shocks for the front. Also need those plastic louvers (sp) that attach to the b-pillar on pickups/xtra cabs.

Thinking of putting these back on..... :gap:

also thinking of going back to half doors all around w/snap on canvas covers for rain. Planning for spare carrier, roof rack, and canvas bed cover. Changes are coming.

Back in the states, vacation is over so now it's time to build  :disturbed: This next week i'll be picking up a battery and ignition cyl. so that I can move it and install/test anti-theft. Then on to front to end. And a big thanks to redneckcustoms for door hinges. I might try to make up a photo shops pic to visualize this version 2.0. Who doesn't like pictures. Cheers :beerchug:

So with what little time I have had to work on this, couldn't get it ready in time to smog, so had to no-op the registration. That puts it into the garage, which makes my angle grinder hand itchy...

looks like i'll be taking this time to do some upgrades and reworking some old things.
