Well while fixing the runner I have decide that I want to change the name. Well I have decided it will now be known as "Project 5150" Now I come to all of you with some questions.

Ok so what I want is:
- 6" lift
- Hi-steer
- 35" Toyo open Country MT
- full exo
- small block for price sake
- Auto tranny
- Dual cases with 4.7 in the rear case
- 5.29 gears
- Toyota axels

Ok so now I need some input. With the gearing I am wanting to run and the tire sizes I would like;
- Can I run Bobby Long shafts and not have a problem?
- Are the Brute Force U-Joints the way to go?
- Are the gears TOO low?
- I want to flog this thing; where are my major week points?
- Will the "Green Machine" alternator with 1 optima yellow top be enough to run offroad lights?

Any help would be great. The engine i have. The tranny is coming soon. I have both cases. I will por 15 the entire frame when I do the swap. The entire inside will be bed lined. Let me know what you think.

ok so here is thee deal. I am looking to do the lift first. but with out a job I am a little short on the green stuff. so I want to make sure i have EVERYTHING before i start.

So if you all could help me make a list. what I have on the list so far

1.) 63" chevys DONE
2.) 4" all pro ft springs DONE
3.) new bushings done
4.) hi steer kit DONE (for an awesome price)
5.) IFS box DONE
6.) extended brake lines DONE
7.) Bobby longs Longfield.com - $630.00 30 spline
8.) 4.88 gears or 5.29 input would be great on this ( i am going to be running duals, and I have 4.7 right now) done except the lockers (5.29)
9.) Material for shackels and mounts Done
10.) 6 stud kit
11.) shocks ( BUT HOW LONG?) done
12.) shock mounts (home made) Done
13.) Chevy 350 SB Working on it. Its under the hood just need to hook it up
14.) TH 350 trans Picking up the new output shaft
15.) AA TH350 to Toyota top shift Done
16.) Square Tube ft drive shaft Done
-

I know I most likely orgot some stuff but I don't want to have the runner sitting 4 a month because I forgot something. I can run on the 31s with the lift till I can get tires but I need it to be able to be driven. what else am I forgeting.

dingman just put 40s on his 2nd gen runner with a saggy 4 inch trail gear sas and 63 chevys in the rear with a 1 or 2 inch block. im pretty sure he has little or no trimming done to it.

this is kinda what I was thinking for the exo and the big purple areas will be cut out. Basically lose as much sheet metal as possible.

So when I put in the "used" engine, the guy i bought it frim said it was perfect runner. well we got it put in and it has valve knock like you would not believe. I took it in to a speed/mach shop in town adn he said that i might be able to get 30k out of it with out issues (other than the loss of power and the god forsaken noise) well I took my head from the blown engine and droped it off at his shop to get inspected to see if it was ok. well he called me back and said i need 3 exhaust valve (it was cracked) but he said for 304.48 i could have new intake and exhast valves put in 3 angle, deck the head and port and polish. well disassembly was $32.50 cleaning and reassembly was $32.50 teh new valve was $7.50 and the hone on all the valve seats was $65.00. that is $140.50. for another $160.00 I get a brand new head that was magna fluxed (or what ever they do) for cracks, hot tanked and ready to go. The decission was not hard.so I should see the head by friday.

So I went and priced teh steel for my cage. form what I have been told I will need about 200 feet. Well it will be about $500. Me and Eric were looking at my runner last night and he thinks we are going to have to cut my sliders back and reweld it. But I am going to do the lift first then worry about the cage and other stuff.

So after some research I have changed teh design of the exo a bit.

What do you all think? It will be 4 hoops instead of 3 (1 in back, 1 in over rear pass, 1 behind the drivers comp, and 1 across the wind shield

edit: I seem to have missed the cross bar on teh top of well you get the idea

ok so I can't do a lot right now due to limited funds but I can keep going with the little things.

This is a trick I learned from my buddy eric
I have notched the hinges to allow for easier removal of the doors

Here you can see how they are both notched

and here you can see the two bolts I use to hold the doors on

the doors a crazy stout with only 2 bolts per door

So I did a little more work today. did some painting. Timed it the best I could. Put all new vacume lines on it.

painted teh wheel to match the hubs... I need to paint the lug nuts

pile-o-vacume lines

this is a trick I stole for ease of vacule lines

color coded zip ties

so like I said no money so the things are going to be cheap and easy for now.

very nice. I paln on putting the head on after I get off work. I don't really care if the hinges are hanging there. But I saw a jeep with 39s last night and it inspired me. I told my wife that is how high I want my runner.

so I guess I will be running 38s to start. I have a buddy that bought a set of 38s and less than 100 miles later he blew up the truck and sold it for parts and kept the tires and rims. the tires are mickey thompson baja mtz 38 16.50 15 and the rims amercian racing rims for $1000. he paid $2100 with mount and balence.

So I have heard of people having issues dustroying their wires in their fenders when cutting out their fenders so I decided to pull the wire back through and run it through the engone bay. I have the pass side done. easy with the stock gromet there to run it through but the drivers side is going to be fun because I have to put a hole in the fire wall and get a gromet that will work.

I need some help. I am doing the life next weekend. I am doing ruf and chevys. should I get new shackels? if so how long. I got my fenders cut for the most part. also a buddy of mine let me barrow his bender (l-cheap-o). I know "you get what you pay for" but i have seen ALOT of stuff built with one of these benders. How do I keep the tube from colapsing or creasing.
