it is a fresh chevy small block. it has an rv2 cam bored 30 over. it will have tune port injection, but for winter in the rocks it will most likely be carb due to funds. this morning I took it down and got the engine bay all cleaned up. i have been working on scuffing and painting the enigne bay. I might take this time to move my steering box forward another 2" or so. pic later after the engine bay is cleaned and painted

Have you got your output shaft for your tranny yet? I talked to a guy on pirate and he said that the 2X4 out put shaft will work you just have to cut it down after it's installed in 4X4 tranny. Call me and we can tear that 2X4 apart and find out were it needs to be cut and I will bring it in and have them machine it down for you.

So I ran into a problem. The adapter that i picked up to run the th350 trans with my toyota t-case is NOT an AA part. their adapter uses the stock 4x4 output shaft. Well the one I have needs a longer shaft to hit the coupler. Does anyone know for sure what kind of adapter i have and what shaft i need to use? We have the engine mounted for good. and now i am ready to install the trans but i need to figure out this problem. Any help would be great and i will try to get pics up tonight after work.

Yeah, post pics.  You might have the wrong adapter, or be missing the tailshaft.  Most need a shaft installed into the transmission.

83yota

so here it is in place. That wicked90 trying to reach the bell housing bolts

Here is the adapter the number on it is a/a711142 and it is a 27 spline and a 21 spline

What do you all think. I know it hooks up with my t-case it is just the trans side i am having issues with. Steve at inchworm thinks he can get me the right tailshaft for $160.00

So this is apperantly a 27/21 adapter (figure that they just used the spline count). I will order the new shaft in the AM and hopefuly get it in this weekend. I am going to work on getting the engine running tonuight after the gym. anyuone have any ideas on how to use the stock fuel tank with a manual fuel pump and still retain the sending unit? I am getting excited, Cruiser fest is in 2 weeks and I want to have it ready. so I will be hitting it hard for all this week and most likely next week. I will take some more pics tonight. I am working on a cowl hood set up even though we found out that i dont need it. and i am redoing the floor and trying to figure out how to do the cross member mod. I will try to get pics of it also.

Last year i was finishing my suspention in the parking lot of the show and shine. hopefuly i will be a little more ready this year.

There isn't any way that you will be ready you need more money, and as soon as I pay robby im broke as well. Have Amber lend you some money for a week or two so we can both get done by the 24th. I am planning on useing everything he gives me even if it will have to be torn out and redone later, we are going to have to redneck some of your setup to get done in time as well. I think that we should put your crossmember up and weld it in place until after and then fix it!!! :flamer:

I will have the shaft on saturday i fixed my banking issue. so tonight after the gym i will put the fuel pump and things like that and that new carb on. maybe get the starter wired to see if i can get it to turn. then maybe tomarrow i can start tearing down the tranny down and getting the tail shaft out.

So I talked to a guy at AA that knows ALOT (Matt) he told me that the adapter that I have is OLD!!!!!!!! it is infact a AA product. but thety havent built parts for it for years. He also told me that if I get the 6" 2WD th350 output shaft I should be able to cut it down and make it work. If this is so Inchworm told me I could return the shaft. so tomarrow I am heading to a tranny shop and getting the shaft for like $20. I will keep you all updated.

I think that you should run that tranny with the inch worm shaft!!! If you already bought it let's just wait if we can't just cut the 2x4 shaft to make it fit.

we will see if we cant that thing on tonight. I need to figure out what bolts hold the starter on. also the low pro water pump has a larger shaft than stock so i need to make the pulley hole bigger to fit.

So it is time to bring this thing back. I have made some decisions that are going to affect this thing like crazy. I have decided this thing is going as close to buggy as I can get it without doing a true buggy. I am going to run full widths with front and rear steer. small block chevy, auto tranny with 203/205 doubler. will be doing a true 4 link in the rear and I am unsure if i will run a 4 link or 3 link in the front. It will have air shocks because it wont be for speed. Full hydro steering front and rear. I want to dove tail the front and rear ends but this is where my questions arise. how much can I do in the front and still get the full cooling i need to run the SB? I want it as small in the front and rear as possible. the goal is to run 40" stickeys as now as possible with NO rubbing even at full lock.

2012... man it has been a crazy few years. well kinda an update. I traded my favorite trail rig (so far... 92 runner aka "Questionable Runner") For a POS suburban that I Bobbed 18" and never got it to perform right. During this time found out that most of the kids HATE wheeling unless it is on, basically, fire roads. (Still kicking myself EVERY day for getting rid of the runner) I traded the Suburban, after selling anything worth value, for a 92 Cherokee (I know I know it was a jeep.) I was told it was ready to wheel minus tires. I had a good friend hook me up with some old school mud hawgs and back to wheeling I was... Well not really it was a POS also. (Still kicking myself for trading the runner.) Then shortly after that I picked up a Saturn L300 for $250. I found a guy online trying to sell a wrecked 94 f350 with the 460. I offered him the car and the trade was done. I sold the Jeep for what I could (Not by any means what the runner was worth) to get all the parts for the truck. 3 weeks after I picked up the truck it is on the road. So now I have been, basically, off the trail since October of 12. I am going insane. I was looking at getting another rig but have since decided to put the 85 back together, with a few upgrades, and get back out on the trail until I can afford to build it the way I want.
