Low Cost Toyota buggy build
« on: Jul 03, 2012, 05:34:54 AM »
I picked this up for $1000 dollars and this is what I know about it so far:

It has 35x12.5x15 3/4 tread BFG KM2's with brand new spare
Marlin duals 2 stock 2.28 cases(they didn't cut the shifter fork shaft off so I have to take them apart)
long travel cv drivelines front and rear from marlin
spool rear
open front(just going to weld it)
4.88 gears
22r that runs
broken J arm steering
it was floped on its side so the body is going
There was also about $500 in tools in it as well

This is what I am going to do I am going to chop the body off and build tube chassis buggy leaving the 22r on propane with Toyota duals. I am going to run selectable up front probably e-lock but for now if there is not a locker in front so im going to weld it.

Things I know that I need done right now:
high steer(have)
ram assist(have)
wheel spacers(have)
ubolt flip kits front and rear(have)
spool for front
got propane kit

I could not believe when I jumped in and it fired up. I started ripping all the junk out of it and there was about $500 in tools in it to boot!!! I am going to start building it as soon as I get some cash.

I wish it hadn't been flopped so hard I would have converted this one to my full body crawler because it has AC, and it drives way nicer than my 90' on the road.

I am getting ready to go pick this up for $200. I am going to cut the chassis apart and modify it to fit, with some changes to the cage. There will be no cab only part of fire wall and floor so the front part of the cage is going to be cut off and replaced. I am hoping to have it started within a couple of weeks.

Here are some pic's of fenders, doors, and truck how it sits right now. I also have the top and I just really want them gone so make offer.

I am going to be cutting most of the body off so if you want parts of it post what piece you want and where you are located so I can find out how much it will be for shipping. If you live where you are close enough to come get them call me and make some arrangements. My number is 435-849-1154

I am starting to chop it up I have the driver side rear quarter panel off and I think I will get the passenger side off tonight. I will post up some picks of what I have done tonight.
I am selling everything I pull out:
Rear 4runner seat with all bolts and brackets
Rear window washer bag and pump
roll bar
tail lights with full housing, right lens and housing are good, left lens is broken housing is still good
both rear quarter panels are solid around tail lights no rust or dents
both doors driver side is good and passenger side is bad, good windows and door guts
driver side front fender is still good but has a little rust
If you need something I didn't name ask and I will see if I still have it. All parts are very cheap!!!

Lemmie get that A/C.

I was about to say body swap until I saw how much you'd already cut it up.

Looking like progress, though!

I have already started cutting up the truggy but the body and frame will be left. It is 3 linked in the rear leafs in front all the links are there if you want what I dont use make an offer.

I finally started the cage last weekend and wanted to see what everyone thought before I weld it up. I have changed the front a little bit and should be able to tac it al together this weekend.

Here is a pic of rear cage

I had to leave part of the frame one the back for the leaf springs but it will get chopped off when the 4 link is done.

Doesn't look to bad. I'd add a door bar and a support from the frame in front of the tire to the b pillar. Probably have to move the filler nozzle but it'll keep rocks from hanging up there.

I have just started. I have to move the filler neck because my skins will not fit with it there. I am just going to make it flat in the floor for now until I get my fuel cell, then I will be moving it all to the rear. The slider area is going to be boat sided I just have not made it that far more pics to come. My dead line for this to be done is the 28th of this month.

I started the driver side I transfered all the wiring in through the firewall instead of outside the fender, filled the hole and folded al the seams inside the fender. I cut out alot for my boat side but have not figured out how to go around body mounts or just cut them off and use the boat side to support the floor.

I have been trying to figure out how to do my boat side and have ran into some problems the body mounts are in the way. I was just wondering what others have done, do you cut them off and weld your floor to the boat side or plate around them?

Looks pretty cool.  Makes me feel bad for scrapping out the cage from my last 4runner, it was very similar to this.
